Alfred Cralle, Black man who invented the ice cream scooper
ALfred L Cralle, the first black
person in Pittsburgh to
get a patent for his invention,
an ice cream scooper.

Cralle was a Virginia native
born September 4, 1866.


Alfred later took advanced
classes at Wayland Seminary
in Washington DC. He worked
by his father's side in the
carpenter trade and got
interested in mechanics.


Later he setted in
Pittsburgh where he was a
porter in Markell Brothers'drug store adn teh
St. Charles Hotel. He got
the position as assistant
manager when the Afro-American
Financial, Accumulating, Merchandise
and Business Association
was organized.
