That depends upon who the artist is....LOL.
I went to my first concert with a friend when I was 16...and we had a blast! We had to stay away from the ones who wanted to have some "groupee love" however....I remember they invited us to come to the "after party"...
rotfl....

Wow. Yeah, this just brought back a great memory. I was in love with Ralph Tresvant and remember feeling so proud at being at my first adult concert. I also remember some girls were throwing money on stage and a couple of the members getting (briefly) ticked off.

There are many concerts geared specifically for minors.. so it would depend on the artist and the type of venue... because some artists cater to young children but put on raunchy shows...

I can't remember what age I was exactly ... but, I don't think I was a teenager, yet! It was the Jackson 5 ... and they were just as much babies as we were! So maybe 11 or 12! Our parents let us go with my best friend's older brother ... who I think dropped us off and left and came back We walked around the stadium the whole time ... but managed to stay out of trouble!

You know, I was at a Busta Rhymes concert in which some of the patrons were not standing up when they were told to get on the floor and "make some noise".... ...and I laughed so hard when their seats got blown up....they were made to get out...the concert would not go on until they left. I was a little shocked, but oh so glad that I wasn't them....that HAD to be so embarrasing! "Wisdom Is A Woman Remembering!"

okay some of these responses are hilarious! I have two nephews who are 13 and I want to take them to a concert featuring Mint Condition, but I'm thinking that they are too young. They don't make kids the same as when they were my age. Just so I'm not left out my first concert was at 13. It featured Full Force, Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam and UTFO. It was GREAT!!!

My vote is to let them go and have a blast. It really is a rite of passage into "teenhood" in some ways...

I thought Jermaine Jackson was really cute!! But thought that he was probably too old for me! quote: Originally posted by HonestBrother: You mean you saw MJ when he was still black?
Not only was he wearing his hair in an Afro (although they were called "Naturals" back then! ) .... but he also had a nose wide enough that he could actually breathe through it!!

I completely agree....I would say that taking them would depend upon how you think they've matured thus far. Will they have a chaperone or no? MoreOver, if you DO let them go and they don't do well, do you think you will be subject to HAVING to let them go to these types of venues regardless since the door got opened? You also have to consider if they will "miss out" on SomeThing in "their time" if you do not let them go...and how that might impact them. Whatever decision you make I'm sure is for the best. Good Luck! "Wisdom Is A Woman Thinking Of Her Own Child!"

I preferred Jackie. Then (the Off the Wall) Michael. quote: Originally posted by ShayaButHer: You also have to consider if they will "miss out" on SomeThing in "their time" if you do not let them go...and how that might impact them. In retrospect, I didn't go to enough concerts and regret that...

My vote is to let them go and have a blast. It really is a rite of passage into "teenhood" in some ways... Especially if, as you way, you want to 'take them' which means you'll be there too!! I think Mint Condition is probably a good 'first concert' group! There's not a lot to chose from in that area .. but, I don't think you could go too wrong with them!

I preferred Jackie. Then (the Off the Wall) Michael. Everybody wanted Michael ... so, while he was defintely adorable ... I suppose he was too 'commercialized' for me! But, my aunt and uncle got invited to Jermaine and Hazel (Gordy)'s wedding which, at the time, was the EVENT OF THE YEAR!!! Lavish and beautiful was an understatement ... they gave out bronze goblets to the guests as souvenirs!! But when I tell you that seeing those pictures made me green with jealousy and envy!! I would have given anything to be Mrs. Hazel Gordy-Jackson on that day!!

I've been looking at Michael's belongings going up for auction, but especially that limosine...lavish is definitely and UnderStateMent for how the Jackson's do it. "Wisdom Is A Woman Appreciating the Beautiful Things!"

Hmmm, shulamite .. I dunno Now that you mention it, I think I do remember hearing/reading a story about her a few years ago ... but, I thought it was about her getting re-married ... not dying!! I know her and Jermaine stayed married a loooonnngg time before they got divorced. In fact, I was very surprised it lasted as long as it did!

I just had to see this limo you were talking about ShayaButter. I found the company that is auctioning his merchandise. Julien's Auctions Mike lived a very lavish lifestyle! Many of his items were customized just for him. WOW!!!

It was evident to me that she really loved him. These are long before his "Jermajesty" days.

Why am I now remembering this? My very first concert was not New Edition, but was KISS with my mom at the tender age of 7 (not kidding!). I barely remember the music, certainly didn't get anything out of it, but I do remember that I didn't care for all the makeup on the men. They looked like monsters to me and were loud and frightening. New Edition was my next concert, a great improvement over KISS... ( shulamite, who intends to ask her mom, "why?"...)

A Kiss concert? My first concert was Ray Charles ... with my parents at the age of about 10 [I guess they couldn't find a babysitter].
