Mississippi Tops List as Most Religious State

Mississippi  and Alabama top the Pew Research Center's list of most religious states while  Alaska and New Hampshire/Vermont come in last.

Click here to see the full list.

The list was compiled by the Pew Research Center Forum on Religion and Public Life based on a Pew survey of 35,000 people conducted in 2007. Click here for more.

The lists ranks states in four areas: Importance of Religion, Worship Service Attendance; Frequency of Prayer, and Certainty of Belief in God.  Mississippi finished No. 1 in all four categories.

On the question of Importance of Religion, for example,  the research found that 82% of people in Mississippi say religion is very important in their lives while only 36% of people in New Hampshire and Vermont take that position.

Wow!!    So many of the top contenders are in the South!!

In the comments section of this article, it was also pointed out that Mississippi is also the poorest and one of the most uneducated and racist of the states, as well.
Again, interesting.

They don't have a gremlin anymore for ROFLMAO because that's what I'm doing. I'm not surprised in the least bit. The south is known for its Christianity.
Texas is just the same ER. How many times have you been asked "What church do you go to?" Annoying.
Don't get me started on Mississippi. . . SMH

Girrrlll ... you do not have to remind me that I'm a sittin' duck smack in the middle of the Bible Belt pond!!

I am still taken aback, though, anytime I read or see something that brings me back to the realization of just how WHITE and white-dominated Mississippi truly is.

And that picture and that story brings total clarity as to why they are still in the dismal situation that they are.
