Science Fiction: Novels

Okay, this is inspired by Xum.
I think that we had a discussion about sci fi in the past, but I don't recall.
What are peoples favorite books and authors?
My all time favorites include:
1. The canonical Dune novels by Frank Herbert.
2. Azimov's original Foundation trilogy
3. Last summer, I read Orson Scott Card's Ender's Series
Past favorites include Ursula LeGuin's Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed, 1984

As for AA sci fi, I have read some of Octavia Butler's short stories. I never really got into Steven Barnes or his wife, Tananarive Due.

Do others enjoy this genre, if so, what do you like?

I like Star Trek.

I'm not really a big fan of sci-fi through reading novels. The books I read most are non-fiction, now.  But I used to read novels quite a bit before that.

I'll watch sci-fi movies ... but, honestly, my TV/movie watching time is limited these days, and mostly consists of news and soap operas (which may not be considered science fiction ... but are really 'way out' sometimes! ).

I do think I read every 'Star Trek' book that came out back in the day, though.  If that counts for something ... then that's about the best I can do about that!!
Don't tell, but I enjoy a sci-fi too! I like Steven Barnes and Tananarive Due. Steven Barnes seems to have gotten into the historical fiction genre. (think Spike Lee film CSA, which was a marvelous piece BTW)
Should I respond to this thread?  Hmmm...   LOL

Actually I have surprised myself with the extent that I like the Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold.

This is the first book to get in the series:

It consists of two novels Shards of Honor and Barrayar.  10 chapters of the first book are free on the net.  The 2nd book is much better the first is merely decent.

As I said in Firefly's thread my favorite book by Octavia Butler is Wild Seed.

One peculiar thing is a book with Black character by a White author from the 60s.  The first one might be hard to find though.

Black Man's Burden and Border, Breed nor Birth by Mack Reynolds

The second is very easy to find.
