The Founders embedded the notion of “liberty and justice for all” indelibly into the American fabric – even though it seems they didn’t mean it. Without regard to whether those men in the 18th century were able to live up to their own lofty ideals or not, today we have the obligation and the opportunity to “make it real” for them.

In the same way that affirmative action is designed to offset past wrongs in employment and academia, perhaps African America needs to employ its own internal affirmative action to raise our stature in politics.

Our history on these shores includes perhaps the most egregious crime against humanity in the history of our world. When exactly, then, did we stop being victimized?

I love football and the Saints as much as the next person, but how can anyone rationalize dumping that much money and "manpower" into getting a stadium done when most of the folks who were displaced from the city by the hurricane are still without their homes etc.

Embracing Africa should be about fulfilling our personal sense of identity, not about running away because we've given up the fight here in America.

How can granting women greater control over their lives and their bodies in this extraordinarily timely way be anything but positive?

White Supremacy Inc. would have us believe that Latinos and Blacks should be at each others throats. Why? Because it serves their interests for us to think that way. We can be smarter and more strategic than that to see that there are a number of fundamentally common interests around political and economic and social issues where the combined leverage of our communities in America could be formidable.

I have never heard you blame the Indians in Bangalore for outsourcing, or the Chinese toiling in sweatshops for the off-shoring problem. I tend to doubt that you would have blamed early 20th century children for the child labor problem of that day. To extrapolate the issue to its extreme, I know you wouldn’t have blamed slaves for their plight. All are classic examples of business exploiting labor – of doing whatever it can to minimize labor expense and maximize profit. How is the current undocumented labor issue any different?
