No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicA Foundation of Contradictions
The Founders embedded the notion of “liberty and justice for all” indelibly into the American fabric – even though it seems they didn’t mean it. Without regard to whether those men in the 18th century were able to live up to their own lofty ideals or not, today we have the obligation and the opportunity to “make it real” for them.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicIt's That Political Season Again
In the same way that affirmative action is designed to offset past wrongs in employment and academia, perhaps African America needs to employ its own internal affirmative action to raise our stature in politics.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicDeflating The Victimhood Argument
Our history on these shores includes perhaps the most egregious crime against humanity in the history of our world. When exactly, then, did we stop being victimized?

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicAn Open Letter To Howard Dean, Chairman - Democratic National Committee
The African American community deserves more from the Democratic Party. I hope you can figure out a way to deliver on issues of specific relevance to us without feeling as if you are compromising what you see as your "base".

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicDeconstructing Hip Hop: Black Folks in 'Black Face'   Page 1 2 ... 11 12
. . . while Hip Hop comes from African Americans and, at some levels, "celebrates" an aspect of African American culture, it has really evolved to be a music form that is driven by whites and that - without us even knowing it – has us parodying white stereotypes of us. Hip Hop, largely, is like black folks in ‘black face’!!!

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicHappy Columbus Day. NOT!
Today our nation celebrates Christopher Columbus. In so doing, we're really hailing those bedrock paragons of Western civilization: white supremacy and imperialism.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicA 21st Century Bill of Rights
I have come to the conclusion that our rights are clearly earthly/human concepts – developed out of a decidedly political process as opposed to anything from “on high”.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion Topic9/11 - why the WTC?
Sure it represents American capitalism, the American way of life . . . blah, blah, blah, but there are far more emotionally and historically meaningful targets in the U.S. Why pick the WTC?

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicIt’s Time For The ‘Office of the Commander-in-Chief’
Perhaps it’s time to create a “mechanism” to ensure that both the American people (through Congress) and the Constitution are being adhered to in the military endeavors of a president.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicFEMA and the Super Dome
I love football and the Saints as much as the next person, but how can anyone rationalize dumping that much money and "manpower" into getting a stadium done when most of the folks who were displaced from the city by the hurricane are still without their homes etc.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicPowell vs. Bush: It's Powell By A KO
Beyond the human implications, which are profound, creating law which permits the United States to torture others would seem to perhaps irrevocably blur the line between "civilized nation" and "terrorist".

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicBlack - Brown Coalitions: Dissected For Your Consideration
White Supremacy Inc. would have us believe that Latinos and Blacks should be at each others throats. Why? Because it serves their interests for us to think that way. We can be smarter and more strategic than that to see that there are a number of fundamentally common interests around political and economic and social issues where the combined leverage of our communities in America could be formidable.

No New ContentHot TopicDiscussion TopicAn(other) Open Letter To Lou Dobbs
I have never heard you blame the Indians in Bangalore for outsourcing, or the Chinese toiling in sweatshops for the off-shoring problem. I tend to doubt that you would have blamed early 20th century children for the child labor problem of that day. To extrapolate the issue to its extreme, I know you wouldn’t have blamed slaves for their plight. All are classic examples of business exploiting labor – of doing whatever it can to minimize labor expense and maximize profit. How is the current undocumented labor issue any different?
