A very interesting thread.
Language, and how we use it, is often the difference. Language sustains, and sometimes creates, the structure of our societies. Hi SSC, yes I agree wholeheartedly that words - at least English ones - don't do the concept justice. I also sense that the concept of Ubuntu is more 'organic' and spiritual. Thanks for the video link As to linux... although their concept of shared free access software is commendable, I too irk at the hijacking of the words for ultimately commercial reasons. Actively living the concept of ubuntu itself... now that is a nice thought... perhaps an antedote for today's me-me-me world. |

thank you Jim Chester. The two words I would most like to hear are "I'm Sorry" - spoken with sincerity by our current prime minister. . |

The video is way too short.
"Spoken with sincerity." Now that's important! I'm a big fan of apologies, as long as they're sincere. As for that antedote; works for me! Two words I like to hear (I know I say them everyday) are "Thank you" and "You're welcome." *********************************** “It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have.†-- James Baldwin |

update: well, it finally happened... SORRY - spoken by our 'new' Prime Minister - NOT the old one! Step 1.... "We look forward to working with the Prime Minister and the Government on working out the terms of the compensataion package if that's what his words mean." ENTRAPPED [from a brother in prison in Oz]
Like an entrapped bird tangled in a net So are we behind these cold grey walls. Though who are we to judge? As there is only one true judge. Through rain, hail or shine, I still look behind these cold grey walls, Only to imagine myself elsewhere. For no matter how long We stay entrapped So too does that little bird. How sorrowful that is for you and me. But as the days come, So will the nights go. For here must be an end to this pain, And misery we have inside. So until that day comes for that little bird to be set free Then too can we be set free. DL "We look forward to working with the Prime Minister and the Government on working out the terms of the compensataion package if that's what his words mean."
