I'd like to explore the concept of Female Privilege.

Do you feel there are any advantages that women have that men don't have?

In the home?

In the workplace?

In society?

Is there any privilege inherent in being female?

This is a great topic BV! Will you allow for this conversation to happen from the perspective of being a Black man in this country - or must we think in terms of just being a man.

Honestly, I don't think I could do the latter.

Black Child's Pledge

I pledge allegiance to my Black People. I pledge to develop my mind and body to the greatest extent possible. I will learn all that I can in order to give my best to my People in their struggle for liberation. I will keep myself physically fit, building a strong body free from drugs and other substances which weaken me and make me less capable of protecting myself, my family and my Black brothers and sisters. I will unselfishly share my knowledge and understanding with them in order to bring about change more quickly. I will discipline myself to direct my energies thoughtfully and constructively rather than wasting them in idle hatred. I will train myself never to hurt or allow others to harm my Black brothers and sisters for I recognize that we need every Black Man, Woman, and Child to be physically, mentally and psychologically strong. These principles I pledge to practice daily and to teach them to others in order to unite my People.

Any way you want to approach it Shango. I think this is something we can only relate to our own experience.

BV,

Female Privlege in the Black community looks like;

1) Unfettered access to the resources in family court

2) The benefit of doubt in domestic or abuse cases

3) Access to employment in white environments; especially low to mid-level management.

I see this mostly in the churches I've attended. It seem as if the sermons are directed toward only the women in the audience. Comments like "You don't need no man to make you feel good about yourself!! You need Jesus' Love to help you get by in this world...not no man." and "I know it's Father's day, but with all these wonderful spirited sisters around this churhc there should be weddings every week here", a TV pastor on Baltimore Sunday morning inspirations. What are the men of the church suppose do with statements like these? Why doesn't the church condemn the babymommas in the audience?? Why not state that God wants two parent home, not some makeshift 'arrangement'?? Wouldn't that effect the church's bottom line?? [Tithes]. Does that same Baltimore Pastor say the opposite statement on Mother's day or women's day at the church?? Not likely

Many churches, like companies focus on their core clientele...

"women"..... and use the same type of advertising strategies...

"sex"...... if not with a man.... then "Jesus" will suffice...

IMHO, there are advantages that women have that men don't and I agree with some of the examples. There are also advantages that men have that women don't. Men and women are different, and males may not see their own set of advantages, but they are there.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Churches focus should be on improving Christians, which includes men. I was calling for fairness. Why should a Father's day celebration include a diss to the men of the church...does mother's day include a similar diss?? I doubt it.
