Being a black man and seeing the condition black men are in at this present time , I would like to have a discussion on what can be done to save this indangered species and how can he regain his dignity and his rightful place in the black family. Why are black men missing from the home, why are so many brothers locked up, on drugs? What causes so much hopelessness in the mentality of the black man , and why does he feel the need to equated his manhood to sexually or physical ability rather than intellectual power? These are just a few questions,please brothers lets discuss this issue with seriousness and try to honestly deal with the situation we as black men in particular and the black family as whole is facing in the 21rst century.

i think blk men, esp young bucks, are allowing others to 'define' us which may lead to us having to 'play that role'. For example, the ruff neck bruh. He may feel that it is his job to 'scare' people...but in reality, those same people would be more scared if he was educated and 'worldly'. As far as the black man in 'home'...I think we need to break away from the no dad needed' formula of the blk community and families. It seems like it is a power struggle between man and woman over who runs the house. Too often the woman draws strength from the fact that a man is not around 'I don't need no man for nuthin!!!' mindset builds and grows outto the next generation...which leads to more single mom headed homes and further poverty. I think that the blk community needs to admit that a 2 parent household is not just an ideal situation, but the best for everyone involved...and that's my 2 cents worth

Sadly too many people (ours and theirs) place the emphasis on everything but intellectual power. If it came down to a spelling bee or essay contest vs. little Johnny hitting a jumper with no time left on the clock, there is no contest. The lure of a fast dollar and fame is too hard to resist for some and if you can't get the fast buck, fly ride and hip clothes you are a failure.
Some how we need to reverse the stereotype of of "nerds" and show the importance and value of living right and that earning money or a living over time is just as cool as the fast dollar. Maybe then more of them will take care of the home front instead of many home fronts.

I dont know where people get the notion that black men dont display intellectual power. I think most black men are very intelligent, witty and creative. There are so many examples of young black men creating something out of nothing. But as usual we tend to buy into the mainstream media's idea of the black man. The thug on the corner or the player with children everywhere and no job.I think its a grave mischaracterization of the black man. People must first realize we are in a war and who is the #1 tarket in a war, the men!

Your point is well taken ... however, I don't see this as an either/or proposition.

While there are a large number of intelligent and positive young brothas in our community ... there are also (way too many) thugs on the corner and high school dropouts with 4, 5, 6 different kids with the same number of different mothers!

The young Black man whose got it goin' on is not the one who needs saving. It is the one out there lost to the street that needs some of our attention. Do you not agree that there are those kinds of brothas out there? And that they should be considered too?

we always talking about what can we do to save black men. Its very simple, brothers need JOBS, good paying JOBS. This will solve alot of the problem.ALl this money we spend on foolishness, we spend very little on re training working and middle class people for jobs in todays economy. Its hard out here, people find it harder and harder to make ends meet.On top of that, there are no jobs for people to get. So of course you gonna have larger concentrations of crime in our communities. Think about this , how many jobs we as a black community provide for our people? what percentage?>
