As I journey through this life here in America, the treatment of black people in general and black men in particular in this society is so inhumane and condescending it often drives me to a Rage that is often frightning to myself. I want to know if any of you brothers ever exeperienced this typ of rage. Whether its a job you applied for in which you are often over qualified and treated as if your some begger or the street or when you come in contact with a law enforcement officer on the street and the look he gives you is one of contempt and suspicion. Do you ever get the feeling everyone prejudges you and really dont care what type of person you are and no matter what you try to do to show your not a monster you still feel alienated? Just some things Ive had on my mind and I would like to see how other brothers are dealing with todays society.

H*ll yeah. I've felt all of that. I've only found one way to deal with it. And that's to not give a f*ck ...

Sure it can be frustrating at times, but I don't give in to rage because that would be letting darker forces control me. I'll never give them that much power.

I am driven by my faith in God and the knowledge that in the end my success is pre-ordained. I will succeed, in part, because of the determination instilled in me as a black boy by my parents, and, by extension, every black person who poured into me and told me I could achieve.

Our history is replete with people who have overcome and conquered in the face of hatred. I can do no less. I owe it to the those who came before me, and to the generation behind me, watching my actions in the face of adversity.

Good will always triumph over evil. Celebrate that.

Oh do I feel ya on this!

Thats why I have a small portion of my basement reserved only for my martial arts workouts. Heavy bags, training dummies, anything I can just let loose and hit on. It does'nt solve anything but it does alleviate some of my tension.

Zakar, I'm convinced that black people, especially the beautiful brothers, will always have it hard.

It's just the nature of the beast, I'm sorry to say.

Since leaving the military it's almost a daily affair and occurence. I do enjoy the looks I get when they realize I have more/have done more than what they percieved through stereotyping.
The frustrating part has been by far the job search.........I know I can't be the only blackman in America with a degree so why is it hard for some to accept? Roll Eyes

Got no love for politicians
Or that crazy scene in D.C.
It's just a power mad town
But the time is ripe for changes
There's a growing feeling
That taking a chance on a new kind of vision is due

I used to trust the media
To tell me the truth, tell us the truth
But now I've seen the payoffs
Everywhere I look
Who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Revolution calling you
(There's a) Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Gotta make a change
Gotta push, gotta push it on through

It helps them feel better about themselves when they can think less of you.

Short story.

In the 70s, I had to hire 14 engineers in a single cycle.

Applications came from all over the country. It was the time the airplance industry went in the 'crapper'...anyway.

All the applicants were European American.

A young man came from nearby Harrisburg for an interview.

It was clear he was having difficult the fact that the person who was going to hire him was an African American.

Remember...Affirmative Action was instituted in 1970.

European Americans were pissed.

About half-way through the interview, he couldn't hold it any longer.

Forcing himself throw his hesitance, he said, 'I would have a better chance if I could get the job like you got your's...something like that.

I let him sweat for a few seconds, and said

I've been working for this outfit since '62. There was no Affirmative Action.

Believe it or not I scored third in the Statewide exam without any special benefits for scoring credit, and...

You could see him deflate.

He knew he had blown it.

They do this because they desparately need it.

They, like their fathers, are afraid of direcg competition.

Look right through them.

And 'keep on steppin'.

PEACE
