Without the aid of any additional resources - either online or off - can anyone tell me what this is a picture of generally and what is the object of this photograph?

I don't know what it is, but it 'looks like' a rainbow in black face to me. 3

fro Lasers....? Reminds of the light "thingy" at car dealerships. They turned them on at night to attract customers and the colorful lasers carries across the black sky....Or it could be a store [grand opening], or event.... Hollywood does this a lot... etc. Just my IMHO, of course. fro

I was thinking something similar. Or rather, a rainbow photographed or altered by way of a filter of some kind.

I'm going to wait and see if some folks who only come to this site at work might have a guess. I can say, though, that the photo has not been meaningfully altered - except perhaps to offer greater clarity.

Hint: Think bigger!

the red-green-black is the African American flag.
The similarity to a rainbow (or also polar lights) means: The African American flag in the sky:-)

I finally broke down and cheated to find the answer -it took only a couple minutes. I can't believe that I missed the photo when it initially came out, but I did. Very cool.

It's a view taken from a NASA probe looking back toward Earth as it leaves our solar system. You'll notice Earth is the tiny little white dot in the photo.

off

The Red, Black, and Green is the African Liberation Flag created by Marcus Garvey of the UNIA-ACL(United Negro Improvement Association- African Communitees League), it is a Pan African symbol, not one exclusive to Africans in Amerikkka. It pre-dated and inspired many of the coluor schemes of the continental African country's flags once they attained liberation from official Euro-colonialism.

Red for the blood, Black for the people, and Green for the land. That land being Africa.

BTW interesting picture MBM, it puts 'things' in perspective.

No problem, no need to apologize. It's a VERY commen mistake. Africans in Amerikkka make the same error all the time...

I would have guessed any shot from my first roll of film from my first SLR camera...
