But I think stars sparkle right before they die. You're seeing the last flickers of life/gases before they go out for good. I think. But if I'm right, I hope the sun doesn't start twinkling anytime soon or we're all fucked.

Guys, this phenomenon has nothing to do with stars dying... The sun doesn't sparkle because it is so much closer and so more luminous - hence the effect is nowhere near as pronounced as with stars (we just don't notice it). |
