I am an MMA fan as well as advocate for Kimbo. I saw the fight a few weeks back, and must say that Kimbo is coming along pretty well after switching to MMA from street fighting. He is not yet an elite MMA fighter, but he is working with one of the best, Bas Rutten. The only question is that at 35, does he still have time to make it to the top. EliteXC is quite young as an organization, and does not have the reputation of some of the older ones, although most of them have now been acquired by UFC. Truth is undoubtedly the sort of error that cannot be refuted because it was hardened into an unalterable form in the long baking process of history... I am a huge MMA fan... my son will be starting BJJ later this month and I will be starting Krav Maga in August. As for Kimbo, I can appreciate his efforts and desire in MMA, I am not all that happy with his marketing from EliteXC... as clear with his fight with Thompson he has a very long way to go before being an actual main event. And for those interested in watching more fights WEC is pretty good about programming on the Versus Network. |

Yeah, I saw Kimbo Slice's fight with that paid ringer (Thompson) with that alien sticking from the side of his head. Slice won but he got lucky & schooled. If the round when Thompson had Slice down had gone 1 minute longer, I think Slice would have tapped. Thompson had him. By the last round, Slice was running on fumes. He needs much work on his ground game (he a skilled puncher but he has small legs; no lower body strenght) and now opponents know his weakness.
I bet his next opponent will not have Thompson's strength & size advantage. Slice? At 35 years old, 5 years maybe barring any serious injury. One early loss and Slice is history. His aura suffered that night and the MMA will have to retool. But as usual, MMA will ride this horse. Slice will be the headliner, promote the sport, get paid an if he does not improve or loses, he will be moved over for the next fighting sensation. According to CBS, it plans at least three more MMA shows. The next, still unscheduled, likely will come this fall and probably will add more if they continue to draw young viewers on Saturday, TV's least-watched night. |
