Egungun, Egungun ni t'aiye ati jo!
Ancestos, Ancestors come to earth and dance!

"I'm sick of the war and the civilization that created it. Let's look to our dreams, and the magical; to the creations of the so-called primitive peoples for new inspirations."
- Jaques Vache and Andre Breton

"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone."
-John Maynard

"You know that in our country there were even matriarchal societies where women were the most important element. On the Bijagos islands they had queens. They were not queens because they were the daughters of kings. They had queens succeeding queens. The religious leaders were women too..."

Vagina by Emmanuel Jal

In "Vagina," he calls out "Mister Oil, Diamond and Gold Miner" for treating Africa "like she's your prostitute."

Did you know that Jazmine Sullivan was on Apollo? I actually remember seeing this performance when it aired.

Sullivan at the Apollo, age 11

This is one of my favorite's of Sullivan's

Braid Your Hair

Who knew braiding hair could sound so sensual? Her voice kinda reminds me of Lauryn Hill's...sort of. Given the right type of songs and a little more vocal maturity, I think this sister could have a very successful music career. Her voice is strong and distinctive. I hope she uses her talent to make quality music.

She sounds like a mix of Mica Paris and Lauryn Hill to me...

But today, I'm listening to...

Lay It Down - Al Green

"Red Clay" by Freddie Hubbard

I love this one. Ron Carter and Herbie Hancock paired with Freddie Hubbard - an awesome team! The intro to this is so dramatic. Freddie knows how to jam.

Since you appreciate jazz music Sis./Bro. Xeon, tell me what you think of this one. This one, by Wynton Marsalis, is nice too. I like to play this one on Sundays. It's so playful. Children love it too. They'll dance to it and pretend to be sunflowers.

"Sunflowers" by Wynton Marsalis (Click on the white arrow to hear song)

I wish more people would support jazz music. Overshadowed by pop music and r/b, it's becoming a long-forgotten genre in our community, but interestingly enough, it's where the best quality music can be found. There's nothing like hearing real LIVE instruments being played. Band musicians and artists are a rare breed and it's a treat to hear them. People should support local jazz artists in their community. Encourage young people to play instruments when they're young, so that future generations can continue to give us this great music.

Yes indeedy.
Too many people associate jazz as being music for older people. If they only knew the truth, Beyonce, Q-Tip, Usher, Brittany and the like would be out of a job with a quickness.
If I come to your city, you will know where to find me.
