any to suggest?
i watched Sex and Lucia (genre: drama/romace) tonight and found myself wondering why i was watching it in parts, but very happy that i stuck it out...subtitles and all. Plot Outline: Various lives converge on an isolated island, all connected by an author whose novel has become inextricably entwined with his own life. the story is very good...conflicted, twists, turns, etc. and the sex...is raw, and real in an artful way. some may feel it's a bit on the pornographic side (NC-17) but it's really real...and if real sex is pornographic to you then warning in watching/renting this movie. the cinematography was great and the location was amazing!! give me the house on the island with an internet connection and i'd be set. i got mine from netflix...and its a rated version, i've heard there is an unrated version out there that is even rawer (if that's a word). Paz Vega is a natural latina beauty. red BLACK green |

Man, I LOVE foreign films! Matter of fact, I watch more of those than I do mainstream movies. Here are some of my favorites.
Raise the Red Lantern (China) Once Were Warriors (New Zealand, all Polynesian cast) Whale Rider (New Zealand, all Polynesian) Audition (Japan, horror flick) Kama Sutra (India/England) Ju Dou (China) Eat, Drink, Man, Woman (Taiwan/China) The Fringe Dwellers (Australia, all Aboriginal cast) Malena (Italian) Lovers (Spain, VERY good movie!) Monsoon Wedding (India) There are so many, but that's all I can think of now. Every year I go to the International Film Festival. Wish I could get some of them on video. What I want to see? Definitely watch "Bend It Like Beckham."
The critics say it's this year's Big Fat Greek Wedding. If you don't get to see it in the theatres or it's not playing where you live, it should come out in DVD or VHS sometime in a few months from now. Probably before Thanksgiving. |

Mira Nair, director of Mississippi Masala, finally has her first movie Salaam Bombay on DVD. Miss. Masala is also on DVD.
2 great movies by Mira Nair. Definitely see City of God And also this indie movie called "Reflections" directed by this first time director Michael K. Harris. Really great. It's out on VHS and DVD. Ask your video rental store and ask for it. |

Ok, I rented Rabbit Proof Fence today and CRIED! It will move you the same way Roots did when it first came out.
It's the true story of the Aboriginal struggle against the racist azz, genocidal policy of children being forcibly removed from their families in order to wipe out black language, culture, and ultimately, the people themselves. This particular story is true, and the two surviving real life women depicted are shown at the end of the movie. This policy was in full effect in Australia until 1970! So many children beaten, abused, brainwashed, and damaged by those devils. They are presently suing for reparations and they deserve it!!! type these things into your browser and read these articles. "vivid memories of a stolen generation Also, type in "Stolen Generation", and look for link similar to this http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/asia-pacific/newsid_876000/876165.stml I tried doing hyper and it didn't work, that's why I'm doing this. |

How does Netflix work? Is it a good service? Why not just drop by the local Blockbuster?

I loved Sex and Lucia. It made me go buy Lovers of the Artic Circle by the same director (Julio Medem), but Sex and Lucia was much hipper and better-crafted, imo. And a great achievement for digital cinematography.
The unrated version which I saw was definitely not suitable for children, but if you're into the symbolism of it (the lighthouse, the lagoon, etc.) and want to interpret the sexing up of the story and how that's fictionalized, fantasized and all that, I'd recommend seeing the unrated version. |

quote: Netflix is my savior!! I still have my Blockbuster and Hollywood video memberships--but never use them. The concept behind Netflix is... 1. Pick your plan: Select the number of movies you want to have "out" at once--plans range from 3-8 or 9 movies at a time...the more movies out the higher the cost of the plan. (3 movie plan - $19.99 per month) 2. Pick as ALL the movies you want to see and keep them in a your queue in the order that you want to see them. It's important to keep your queue list full. 3. The way to stay ahead of the gimick is to watch and return your movies in a timely manner.--the faster you watch them the faster you get the next movie on your list, and the more movies you watch for your monthly plan fee. Blockbust I think charges 5 bucks or more for a new release. For $20, thats 4 movies out for 3-5 days, then late fees if their late. Nexflix you pay the same $20 and can watch as many movies as you can get through in a month having 3 movies out at once. no late fees, no shipping charges, movies delivered to your mailbox, no midnight drives to the movie rental store to turn a movie in...just walk to your mailbox and send it back in the pre-paid envelope its shipped to you in. they generally offer the first month "free" with membership--if you don't get a pop-up with a trial-free code..I have plenty of codes to offer. quote:I often wonder the same thing. When one takes into account the history of our brethren in in the U.K. and how they were STRONGLY encouraged to inter-marry with whites(still are from what I understand)and the situation with the our aboriginal family it becomes very easy to draw those conclusions. I can recommend it. Watch it, rent it, see it!
If it's already on DVD, go get it. That movie was brilliant. It shows the gritty part of drug dealing that's way too horrible to make it as a video. No bling-bling glorifying in this story. |

Huey! Was that hot or what??!! Damn that was a good movie! I don't know how many people here have the "Black starz channel"...it sucks 90% of the time, but the other 10% is black foreign films from france, africa, south america, etc., and they're reeaally good. When I look at alot of the crap black hollywood puts out...we got a lot of catching up to do.

I.Logic, is it just me but most of the black hollywood movies out there are a rip off the last film that came before it.
"Deliver Us From Eva" was another one of those Soul Food/Waiting To Exhale/The Wood/The Best Man/Love Jones Psuedo-romantic comedy clones. The Brothers were the worst. It bit off all of those films above, including Jungle Fever and Boyz N the Hood...but I'll talk about that film another time. Speaking of sorry, do you know that TBS Superstation is going to have a Martin Lawrence film weekend? |
