Star Jones files for divorce Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:56pm EDT LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Star Jones, whose elaborate, corporate-sponsored wedding won her the nickname "Bridezilla," has filed for a divorce from her husband of about three years, Al Reynolds, according to media reports. Celebrity television show "Entertainment Tonight" said Jones issued a statement saying she had filed the papers a month ago. "The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone's life that requires privacy with one's thoughts," Jones said in the statement. "I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman." Jones, 46, and Reynolds, 39, a banker, were married in 2004 in a lavish wedding in which supplies and services were donated by corporate "sponsors" in return for publicity. Tabloid newspapers referred to her as "Bridezilla." Jones was a co-host the popular daytime talk show "The View," on which a group of women discuss current affairs, for nearly 10 years before being dropped in 2006. In an interview on NBC's "Today" show after the firing she apologized for getting "caught in the euphoria" of her plans. "I think I used and some would say abused, my celebrity in planning the wedding," she said on "Today." In Wednesday's statement to "Entertainment Tonight," Jones said she "made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life." The divorce papers were filed in New York Supreme Court in Manhattan. A spokesman for Jones had no further comment. (Editing by Dan Whitcomb and Bill Trott) © Thomson Reuters 2008. I don't think that it was ever really that DL. But what is this that I saw of Star and Dwayne Wade. First, isn't he young enough to be her sone, and second, I heard it was to make Al jealous. The only way I could see Al being jealous is of wanting to be Star in this situation, not of wanting to get Star back. Truth is undoubtedly the sort of error that cannot be refuted because it was hardened into an unalterable form in the long baking process of history... OA, I think the one woman on earth who has the WORST gay-dar in the world is Liza Minnelli. She's Judy Garland's daughter, worshipped by the Gay community, a Broadway legend just like her mother.
How in the world ALL your ex-husbands end up gay? Liza should have GPS gay-dar. Terri McMillan and Star Jones should've learned from Liza. I'm a dude. Our gay-dar isn't nearly as sharp as a woman's, and even I knew that Star's and Terri's exes were on the DL. When I saw her picture with her then-husband, my friends knew that he looked peculiar. One of my roommates said, "Doesn't he look like Sinbad's gay twin?" when he saw the picture of them together. Aw hellllllll to the nawwww. HOT COUPLE my ass. That's a hot mess. That is the most well dressed visual of hot mess I've ever seen in my life. A grown-ass man dressed like he was going to his kindergarten graduation. You know what so sad, if the suit was all black, it looked like Star was ready to take him to the Greyhound bus station and send him to Farrakhan Day Camp. That is an interesting point, about the tough black woman image, Koco...
I have been convinced that both Terri McMillan and Star Jones knew they were marrying gay guys. Liza Minelli as well. I believe that in the pursuit of their "strong, dominant, tough woman image," they sought to marry men they found effeminate. In an interview a couple of years back, Terri McMillan said something about money she had given her ex-husband, "So he could start his dog-grooming business ..." So I don't want to hear her claim she didn't know he was gay. I realize that's stereotyping to an extent, but when you look at things like that in the total context of everything else about the guy, I'm not listening to these women claim they didn't know. They knew; somehow, something else went wrong in the relationship. Same thing with Star Jones. If she was desperate for a man, she easily could have picked a straight guy. Even when she was fat, she could have found a straight guy to marry. Desperation for a man doesn't explain this alone. She intentionally married a gay guy. Either she wanted a man she felt she could be "stronger" and "tougher" than, or she wanted a man who wouldn't end up with another woman. Either way, there's clearly some insecurity there. In fact, after she dropped all the weight, maybe she dropped some of the insecurity too. Enough to decide that the reasons for marrying a gay guy no longer applied...

That's a very interesting perspective, Vox. I can definitely see that being the case.
I also believe that it wasn't a *secret* to either one of these women that their soon-to-be husbands had a little sugar in their boots. Remember, Star's husband was photographed in a gay bar on Halloween with a cape and a G-string, flashing folks and calling himself "Bam-Bam"!! But, I think one thing both of these relationships had in common was that both of these men more or less swept these women off of their feet with love and charm and made them feel very, very special!! That's a hook-line-and-sinker way for a man (gay or otherwise) to reel in a woman (especially one with a lot of money) ... and a lot of women will overlook crazy, outlandish things to have a man giving her that kind of love in her life. And of course, there's always the "I can change him" (flawed) way of thinking .. that never works, but doesn't stop us from trying! BLACK by NATURE, PROUD by CHOICE. Before there was ANY history, there was BLACK history. |

OMG @ that picture. I'd be damned if my man were going out like that. If I had to physically dress him myself, he ain't leaving the house looking like an idiot.
