Rather than trying to stay young forever, it would be nice to see Janet gracefully change her style from "Control" style pop music to jazz vocals.

I agree Dissident..

I just bought Erykah Badu's Amerykah... and I'm not feeling it... It's definitely different... but I made the mistake of playing it in front of my children and she curses like a sailor so much I have to wait to listen to it later... but there were no tracks that immediately stood out to me...

I was NOT happy....

I can't believe I BOUGHT a CD... grrr...

but bending to peer pressure, errrrybody says that there are some good songs.. so like a good little girl I'm going to give it another go...

humph....

Peace,
Khalliqa

I like the whole CD fom beginning to end. It took a few listens though. At first it just sounds weird. But then you actually listen to the lyrics and the concept becomes much clearer.

I'M AN ELITIST TOO.

In fact ... it can be listened to as an artistic summation of many of the themes that regularly appear on this board ... lol

Well Sister Khalliqa, we did tell you that the CD is heavily influenced by hip hop music and that the content is very political. We also mentioned that she's not doing the neo soul or r/b music anymore. She's strayed away from that. Now, perhaps you could play her earlier music in front of the kids (Baduizm and Mama's Gun), because it's mostly jazz and r/b, but her recent stuff, NO. It's very much adult, political, experimental, etc.

I don't like the cussing either or her using the word "nigga" all the time on the song "Master Teacher." It really bothered me. But I also understand WHY she's comparing niggas to master teachers. If I have time, I'll create a thread so that we can discuss it. It's unfortunate that you didn't like it, though.
