i might be aging myself here, but in the 80's when Madonna first came out with "Holiday", you could not tell whether she was black or white. It was only when the video for "like a virgin" came out that u saw she was a weird, weird white girl.
over the years advisors have influenced Madonna to work on her "lower range" which is her weaker voice IMHO. She is stronger in the higher register, but apparently that does not appeal to white listeners.
