I have to admit I like Lisa Stansfield and Rick Ashtley, Michael McDonald (the only white man who could successfully sing with Patti LaBelle). I can't think of anyone else right now.
Although they aren't white, probably closer to Black, I have to give an honorable mention to the singing group 'The Jets'. They were good back in their day.

Okay. This is the first time I've heard of her. She just came out with an album, according to the description of the video clip.

They are actually Tongan... Tonga is another Polynesian island... There are a lot of Tongans in the Dallas metroplex... The only reason I know that odd fact... The Jets are like their Jackson family... I accidentally called them Samoan one day and learned my lesson...lol

well if you get in the 'way back' machine, and go to the early 60s (which you may need to do, just to find out what a way back machine is), you would find Dusty Springfield and Ronnie Spector of the Ronnettes were pretty hard to peg.

And there were a lot of Doo-Wop groups that were not easy to determine what their race was (maybe because some of the groups were mixed), like The Brooklyn Bridge singing Sixteen Candles

In the later 60s there was the Fifth Dimension when they made that black song, Stone Soul Picnic (hahaha, that is sorta a joke, just sorta).

Were they ticked off as in PO'd Tongan mistaken for Samoan (or Cuban mistaken for Puerto Rican/ Korean or Chinese mistaken for Japanese)?

How 'bout George Michael? He may not be Jon B. but, I think he's got soul.

I saw him in concert the other night, and I LOVED IT! I can't stop listening to "Flawless (Go to the City). When he did it live the joint was jumpin'!

Simply Red, Bobby Caldwell, Hall and Oates, Teena Marie... Hell everyone mentioned works for me except for NKOTB... I would also add (some of which are groups/bands) Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, Michael Franks, Coldplay, Bruce Hornsby, Jamiroquai, Sting and Everything But the Girl to the list...

Gosh, did you really have to take it there?! Frown Razz
He didn't perform that one (good), but he did do "I'm Your Man" and showed the video too. But, that actually worked the crowd.

And I'm still listening to "Flawless". Talk about earworms. Big Grin

Nah, they were more pissed off that Samoa was getting 'credit' for 'The Jets', when their fame should have put Tonga on the map so to speak...

That's awesome. I was born in 1986, so I missed out on growing up while New Edition was actually the hot Black teenage and young adult sensation. I was introduced to New Edition around 1991 or 1992 when I started paying real attention to music and I developed an interest in it. I became a fan of New Edition the first time I heard one of their songs. I actually hear my first N.E. song in 1989 when I was 3, I have good long-term memory and I can remember being 3 years old riding with mom in the car and hearing "N.E. Heartbreak" on the radio with Ralph Tresvant chanting "She got it goin' on, goin' on, goin' on" I didn't know who the group was at the time (at my young age of course), but I liked it. A couple of years later when I found out who New Edition was and listened to "Mr. Telephone Man" I bought all of their albums over the years. Smile I guess that explains why a picture of me from 1990 has me with a Bell Biv DeVoe-style high top fade. lol

I did get to grow up with them in a sense in the 90's but it was after the fact. I still remember how excited I got when they briefly got back together in 1996-1997.

To be honest I'm a Robert DeNiro fan also. But not for that reason, I just think he's a good actor.

Kajagoogoo? td6 18

Seriously, Kajagoogoo over New Edition? What the.....?? That's like choosing Jesus Jones or an 80's hair band over Mick Jagger. I can list about 20 groups off the top of my head that New Edition or N.E. members influenced or directly spawned:

New Kids On The Block, Boyz II Men, Another Bad Creation, SWV, En Vogue, Salt-n-Pepa, Hi Five, Guy, LSG, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Shai, Dru Hill, Jodeci, BlackStreet, B2K, Backstreet Boys, NSync, 98 Degrees, Ruff Endz, Jagged Edge, Kid N' Play, Kriss Kross, Destiny's Child

and individual artists that individual N.E. members influenced:

Bobby Brown influenced: R. Kelly, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Joe, Tyrese Gibson, Keith Sweat

Ralph Tresvant influenced: Usher, Justin Timberlake, Tevin Campbell, Shawn Stockman

Johnny Gill influenced: Nathan Morris, Robin Thicke, Maxwell, Aaron Hall

Ricky Bell influenced: Lyfe Jennings, Musiq Soulchild

I'm very sure I'm forgetting some people and groups.

No offense but that girl sounds like she had some kind of brain damage.

I like both of them too. Actually, I think Robin Thicke, the White R&B singer son of actor Alan Thicke, has a good voice and makes some pretty fly songs. Not quite Jon B. but better than most of the cats out there today.

Whatever happened to Jon B. by the way? I remember hearing him back in 1997 when a few of his songs were receiving heavy radio rotation along with Usher who was just becoming popular back then. I actually think Jon B. is just as good as or maybe a little better than Usher.
