hey fellow africanamericans.org!! i have been seriously looking for a home business opportunity. i'm currently involved with mela leuca, and am finding it very difficult to be an aggressive sales person. i've heard from herbal life and have the same problem with it.

i am apparently no good at sales, sales presentations or high pressure sales. it seems that most home businesses are based upon sales, unfortunately.
i am a licensed clinical social worker, but i don't much like the idea of a private practice either. our community is not very into counseling, and i think i would have a hard time developing a clientele. besides, i'm not sure i'm interested in that either because it generally entails spending evening hours away from the family. and the whole point is to have more time for the family.

any suggestions on a viable home business that would not require me to be a svengali, pushy sales person but would still afford a decent income and flexible schedule?

little minx,

I'm not sure how much help I can be to you in this area, but just as a couple of suggestions ...

I do transcription work out of my home. I started off typing for an internet transcription service, which didn't pay very much initially, but kept me at home and able to eat! Smile If you have any previous transcription experience, you might want to check out some of those companies.

Also, I've had a couple of friends that were working at home by taking calls from those "Only $19.99 commercials" where you can buy anything for only that price and they give you double everything else! lol Apparently, they contract people to take orders from their home phones. I don't know what the initial startup costs may be or how to get started, but I'll try to find out for you.

You may also want to look into things like medical billing. You will probably have to take a short course (they do internet courses), but after you get your certificate, then it's just a matter of finding a couple of doctors/clients to work for and the pay is not too bad once you get started.

I have a home based business that I do on the side to supplement my income. Click on the link in my signature and take a look. My contact information is there. If it sounds like something that interests you, I can show you how.

ah prepaid legal. i've heard of it, and i had a friend who tried to build a home business doing it. although she has several friends who are very successful at it, she was not. it sounds to me like a sales home business. i'm no good at that. but thank you for the information anyway.

I actually don't do any selling. People buy Pre-Paid Legal because they recognize the need for it. Because I use the service myself, and I've been very impressed by and happy with it, I find myself recommending it to everyone I know Smile.

is it also one of those things where you make the real income by having folks who are enrolling customers under you?

i may be interested in prepaid legal as a customer but i don't know about the potential as a business.

ebony i've done some research and found a website that will pay you to transcribe. the site makes it sound rather lucrative (ofcourse they do). my question is should you have to pay a service to refer you? and if so, how much is reasonable?

You can make real income that way, but you can also make real income just by signing up new members yourself. I've never really focused on sponsering new associates. Not that I won't do it, it's just not my mission. My mission in regards to Pre-Paid Legal is to get the message of it out to as many people as possible. That's why I developed the website. My motivation for getting into this business in the first place was because I got tired of seeing myself and people I cared about being beat up by the legal system because they can't afford a lawyer (...and justice for all my @ss Roll Eyes).

Any questions that you have about the Pre-Paid Legal plan itself can be answered at www.personalsafetyinstitute.org . Just click on the membership link at the bottom of that page and it will take you to a Pre-Paid Legal information website. If you decide that you want a Pre-Paid Legal plan, you can sign up right there. Don't forget to look at the Identity Theft Shield plan. It's priceless!

I can mail you much more detailed information on the business. The information is free and I've got plenty of it. Just PM me your mailing address and I'll send it to you.

little minx,

Some of those referral-type businesses are legit ... the catch usually is you still have to cultivate the clients yourself because they will either send you a list or put your name on a list for clients to look at and they usually pick you based on lowest price you will accept to type a job. The plus to this is that usually, clients who are looking are ones that definitely need the service and it's not hard to get one or two of them to let you do their typing. I, personally, wouldn't pay more than $20-$40 for such a service. Most want to charge more than that, but that's all I think that kind if service is worth if I still have to do the work to get the client. Smile

Most of the really legit internet transcription services will ask you to take a test and won't charge you money, but will require a certain software or foot pedal. And they won't ask you to do that until after they have accepted you, so, it's your choice whether you want to make that investment or not.

Here is a link to article that was on MSN today...they have good information regarding being a telephone operator from home; I actually work for a local company in my area on the weekends doing something very similar. Hope it helps. http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/CollegeAndFamily/R...FromHome.aspx?page=1
