What do you guys think of savings bonds? My 401k deferrals are already going to an agressive fund. I'll be starting another account with Sharebuilder that will probably also be fairly aggressive. But I'm thinking I want something safer just to spread the risk a bit. What do you think of buying a bond, maybe once per month, and just stuffing in the safe deposit box? (Don't know if I'm ready to trust the electronic version.) Are there any strange tax implications of savings bonds? Thanks. ------------------------------ DOMS is my friend. |

I don't know how old you are but I'd guess you are too young to be investing so conservatively. If you want to diversify risk then why not buy an index of the S&P 500 (Spiders) or the Dow or something. If I haven't recommended it before to you - you should spend some time on fool.com. Search for their pages that articulate their investment style - how you can start to think about investing on your own. It will give you a great sense of what kinds of things you should be thinking about. |

Thanks MBM.
As always, thanks for the tip. You just need to break down and come to Houston for a weekend intensive with all of us. I am familiar with the Motley Fool/Fool.com. I don't remember you sharing it with me though. Sorry if this was a duplicate post. Yeah, bonds are pretty conservative. I guess I just wanted something a little less nerve-wracking to soothe my nerves. Just dumped half my bonus into my 401k. I am 43. Too old for any more fun . . . too young to be a curmudgeon getting the senior discount. ------------------------------ DOMS is my friend. |
