Shango,

I am not sure why but you intrigue me.

Cathy...

You and I both know why.

I don't

However, I do want to try to understand you!

My position is clear on this issue. Black people need to limit their social interactions with white folks until white supremacy is deconstructed. The current Black / white social relationship, which is a power dynamic that places whites at the top of the order through the oppression of Black people, must be addressed before we venture into personal relationships.

Black Child's Pledge

I pledge allegiance to my Black People. I pledge to develop my mind and body to the greatest extent possible. I will learn all that I can in order to give my best to my People in their struggle for liberation. I will keep myself physically fit, building a strong body free from drugs and other substances which weaken me and make me less capable of protecting myself, my family and my Black brothers and sisters. I will unselfishly share my knowledge and understanding with them in order to bring about change more quickly. I will discipline myself to direct my energies thoughtfully and constructively rather than wasting them in idle hatred. I will train myself never to hurt or allow others to harm my Black brothers and sisters for I recognize that we need every Black Man, Woman, and Child to be physically, mentally and psychologically strong. These principles I pledge to practice daily and to teach them to others in order to unite my People.

With very little effort, I heard your thoughts well before you responded to that post.

I thought I'd give a little insight into this subject because I have experienced this personally being adopted into a caucasian family. My parents adopted a total of ten kids(counting me) who are either African American or Biracial, except for one who's caucasian who we joke is secretly white chocolate lol. Growing up in a caucasian family I was never deprived of my culture being that my parents always filled our home with culture from dolls, toys, movies, and african artifacts that we collected on our family vacations to jamaica and haiti. So culture was deffinatly not an issue in our family, either was hair being that my mom does all of our hair including braids, cornrows, twists, extensions, etc. My siblings and I have friends from many different races so we never were just exposed to caucasians. If you look at how many children who are sitting in foster care waiting to be adopted the majority of those children are african american or biracial who need homes just as much as caucasian children do and I for am all for whites adopting black children because don't all children deserve to have a home and family where they feel loved and are cared about.I don't think it should matter if your white, brown, purple, or polkadot as long as your willing to love that child regardless and embrace their culture because honestly in today's world and society we all could use a bettter understanding of eachother.

We KNOW white folks.

And the more we KNOW, the more we need to shelter ourselves from their pathologies

I see nothing wrong with whites adopting black children, but interracial adoption is not for everyone and each to their own.I honestly though would rather see an African American child in a white home then sitting in the system and wating years to be adopted, which many aren't. It's the system after all which is destroying are african american boys and youth, and if it takes interracial adoption to save one child form becoming a stastistic of drugs, alcohol, or abuse in foster care then I'm sure as hell for it.Like my family might not be your typical family where we all look alike or share the same birth parents, but I wouldn't have it any other way.In that being the case I hold my head high as a product of interracial adoption because color isn't what makes a family or sharing the same blood, but the love and caring that family members share for one another because honestly we all could use a litlte more of that in our world.
