2 long years
Nothing really changed that much but I do have a lot to catch up on. The only thing I really miss about Korea is the shopping and each day I regret not spending more or buying more things. Frown There really is no culture shock but it is good to be home. I was able to keep in touch with the "real world" through sites like AA.org. (which helped me with my car purchase) Big Grin

I don't think its "clickish". At the same time I watch the number of people that come to the site and the number that post - and as you would expect, those that post are a small percentage of the total. I'd obviously LOVE to figure out a way to increase that.

I've gotten feedback that some people may feel intimidated to respond. I guess they see that there are folks here that are well-versed in particular areas and are fearful of getting "blasted". I think we're trying to develop a warm and inviting culture. At the same time there are some smart folks that are passionate about what they post about.

Any ideas about how we can make it more inviting? I love that people come here and read the content. I wish people felt more comfortable throwing their two cents in!

Help! Smile

Well JuneBug: Being a new member it would be both unfair and unkind of me to accuse any member of being a snob or in a clique. Besides, I don’t personally know anyone on this site, and haven’t been given that impression.

Usually, I only have time to read and respond to a few posts. Moreover, the topics and discussions seem to be geared toward politics, a subject that I rarely discuss publicly. Politics to me is like religion: personal and not up for debate. However, I enjoy reading the views of others.

And Llen if you don't mind me saying...

You fione gurl! Cool

I like you am a busy person too I was wondering if for some reason this site attracts the more upper mobile type because checking some of the backgrounds I know who post here are the professional type, not many students and people with a lot of free time. Therefore your typical poster is more targeted with their responses and perhaps that is a factor and is unique about the attraction here.

Llen, what topics will you likely respond to?

The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.

I just wanted to say that this board is so much better that blackplanet and bet why in hell do they let the idiots post there? why don't they start banning people over there. I just wanted to find a place to talk to black people about black issues without the la Raza and KKK hate groups butting in ooh well this is a great site I hope it stays this way.

On a lighter note I have a final in Math anyone want to take it for me? just playing I really hate math though.

@ Justice4all Smile Hello and welcome to AAorg. Sorry, I'm too far away (haha). Here's a little advice go with the first answer don't go back and erase. Wink

@Junebug
Razz…Looking over my reading glasses, and blushing…Thank you.

AA org has informative forums that definitely have my attention. Also, I am delighted to read articulate opinions of the members and guest on AA.org, as appose to some other sites where the so-called intellectual discussions are nothing more than egotistical cockfights.

I agree with you Junebug, the personalities here seem to be laid-back, professional, and adaptable. Thankfully, this site doesn’t to appeal to the person who feeds on conflict.

In terms of topics, I am more apt to response to topics that focus on our daily lives (health, culture, family, etc.,). Thanks for asking. Smile

Llen,
I agree wholeheartedly with you--and the new format has only increased the focus on politics. i am not well versed in them but i do read the topics from time to time to catch up on things and opinions not offered in the daily news. i feel as if i was somewhat of a crusader in the "our lives" forum, but with little support from others. please feel free to start topics that you find important, pose questions, post articles--to keep the board alive we all need to take an active role. Smile

Nykkii, Llen et al -

As mentioned here I am very much interested in further developing the site in ways that people are interested. The "Our Lives" forum has always been great fun and I want it to grow even more. As I said in the linked post though, I need help! I try to drop interesting articles, links, questions etc. in periodically, but a lot of times there's just not much energy there.

I'd really love your help. I know that it's going to take some time to get the "WH '04" forum going. At the same time, I really see a vision for it - so I'm happy to keep investing in that. It will get much more interesting and relevant as we get closer to election time.

"Our Lives" needs some moderators/co-hosts to give it some TLC on a regular basis. I'd love for someone(s) to have a vision for that forum and take the ball and run with it! I have no doubt that that forum will be a great magnate for new growth once it's popping!

BTW - I just re-ordered the forums - putting the AfricanAmerica category back up front. Perhaps that will help a bit.

Also - I think you both know that I am extremely open to feedback, critique, suggestions, etc. As I said, I know I need help! Smile

Junebug.. shame on you.... I know you were kidding, but now you can see how I felt most of the time. Chopped Liver!!!

Anyway, I've been a busy little girl and all. Discovered the name the Eek organized religion that I've been at the edge of without knowing. Religious Science (Science of Mind), so I've been getting into that more and of course falling madly in Heart love.. and working too much, as usual!!! Kinda a self imposed hermit these days, so I have not been on the site much Frown

I am guilty,
I just get satisfaction from reading and learning about how people feel about different subjects and when I do respond it is b/c of a deep feeling I have towards a subject. I am not very articulate and I do shy away from responding due to my inability to convey what I would like to in words. Frown
Some of the subjects I find interesting but I feel I do not know enough about them to really formulate an opinion, (ie politics, money).
I know those are lame excuses but since I did not make a resolution I will resolve to become more active on AA.org !!!!

Falling in love, that's nice Big Grin

Actually I have not notice your posts lately I figured you like me just too busy.

Anyway, really nice to see you still kicking it. To tell you the truth I've been trying to slow down a little I have too many friends we been wearing ourselves out lately, that too is part of the reason I've not been posting.

Take care Junebug Smile

Thought #2- Why are there so many Tampa Bay fans all of a sudden claiming they were with me all along????
