When I hear this, the history of the slave ship era and slavery becomes foremost in my mind. |

Oh yes, I can't stand that SLAVERY
still exists in NOrth Africa and other places too. It's the Arabs causing slavery. Did you know that? I'm wondering how to help them and get them away from these sick people? "Black History, All Day, Everyday, All The Time." |

Yes, I hear of this and my heart is there. Concerning the Arabs, I consider America's position even on this. They know about the Arab involvemnt yet, they beckon them to share in trade and economy. America knows how many Arabs feel about Africans yet, they welcome them into our world. They know the vulnerability of this. America is guilty because they support this 'slave system'. |

I can believe that stat about pedophiles, but respectfully, this stuff about Arabs and slavery sounds like something more appropriate for 1608 and not 2008. There is still a slave trade in Africa but:
1) It's is very small compared to what it used to be. This is no excuse and it's still an international human crisis but it's still relatively small and has little impact on African-Americans. 2) Europeans are the main parties involved in the slave trade these days. Africans themselves are the ones who sell people as slaves in the black market. So let's no excuse Africans selling out their own people by blaming it all on Arabs who don't even do most of the slave-catching anymore, or even the buying. Most human trafficking in Africa is sold to European countries or the US (I'm sure a few African-Americans are even guilty of buying trafficked African servants). 3) Phrasing it the way Chevron Dove did just allows white people to go "Oh yeah! Those dirty A-rabs! How dare they?! Shame on them!" while conveniently excusing their own participation in the trade. Similar to how some racist or clueless white people try to excuse white participation in slavery by playing up the fact that African sold the slaves to Europeans originally or that some black Freedmen in the US bought African slaves. 4) The US is involved in African human trafficking, so why use the US to punish all Arab peoples in general for some shit that involves only a few thousand Africans, Europeans and Arabs? As if the US Empire is in some moral position to arbiter punishment. Not only that but to punish an entire race for the actions of a few. I would hate to see the day when African-Americans start relying on the Empire to hurt people we perceive to be our "enemies". ---------------------------------- "Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Get with the times. You wanna fight slavery? Try Burger King or Bridgestone-Firestone "The easiest thing in the world is to heap undeserved scorn on Black folks. And the saddest thing in the world is that half of them will applaud you for it." |
