  • Yesterday we had 2,257 visits but only 6 clicks on sponsor links. So far today we've had only 3 clicks but 2,251 visits.

As you've probably seen I put a little (corny) ticker counter on the front page to track the number of sponsor clicks per week. We get between 10,000 and 20,000 visits per week. From all of those visits, if we can generate 250 clicks on the sponsor links from members - then that will go a long way toward contributing to the monthly overhead here.

It sounds "doable" to me. Let's see! 15 thanks

As you can see, I am somewhat "green" at this kind of communicating.

My question is: I can start a blog; I have issues that need to be articulated in our Black Community, which could benefit our whole Society, if the message fell on willing ears. Is there a tutorial anywhere that can describe for me the intricacies of generating an income necessary for the maintenance and upkeep of this site? Just inform me where, I can take it from there. I have literally, thousands that can be directed to this site if I could be directed. In other words, I am a willing student willing to learn, very teachable too.

Some time has passed since I asked the question. As I search further the website---and click on the advertisers, It can be seen what results this site anticipates when visitors click on advertisers' links.
What a confirmation it was when one link I visited was from a legal group which touted a possible settlement looms in the Senate farm Bill that also claims the remedy to the Black Farmers case. I am understanding more all the time as I become familiar with this website.

The caution or reminder I would have for all readers is that this Bill has not become law and it must have President Bush's signature to become law. I also invite anyone with interest to join the blog I chair.

    Bill C. ....

This would be an area for the board's founder, MBM. He knows all about the ins and outs of how the board works and the costs associated with it and all that kinda jazz!!

The rest of us are just grateful for a place to post our thoughts and opinions and we leave all that technical mumbo jumbo to him!! Smile He's on and off the site 'cause he stays pretty busy .. but, questions such as this should maybe go in the Site + Suggestions & Feedback Forum where he's likely to check in, as he's always looking for suggestions to try to make the site a little better! Smile

I would try to answer your question, but, I've gotta admit, I have no idea what you're talking about! Big Grin Sorry!

If you find value in your interactions here - whether in the forums, or via our radio show, or whatever else that you may enjoy - then please consider supporting us so that we can remain healthy and grow.

In the same way that we all bring a variety of experiences and perspectives to our interactions, we also each have our own capabilities that we can invest in AfricanAmerica.org. To some, it will be easier to periodically PayPal us your support. For others, it will be contributing in non-cash ways - which are equally as valuable.

Here are a variety of ways that you can support AfricanAmerica.org:

    FINANCIAL

  • Donate! The site costs money to maintain. Server and bandwidth costs increase with every post. Your cash donation via the PayPal link on the bottom of the categories and forums page is an extremely effective way of supporting us.

  • Frequent our Sponsors! Every time a member clicks a link to one of our sponsors the community gets a few pennies. If many of us clicked on the links every time we come here, the support generated could be meaningful.

  • Use our Amazon Store! On the AfricanAmerica.org Portal page - found at AfricanAmerica.org, there is an Amazon store with books and music that I have recommended. If you purchase something there (at standard Amazon prices), then the community gets a small commission. Again, if more of us did that, the numbers could become meaningful.

  • Buy 'RBG Gear'! Go here where you can purchase a variety of items with the red, black, and green Pan African flag on it. Again, each sale there generates a small commission to our community.

    NON FINANCIAL

  • Be Active! An active member is a good member. Your perspectives, posted throughout AfricanAmerica.org, keeps the site fresh and dynamic. Just coming and posting is a great way to support us.

  • Post New Topics! Starting new threads is a great way to contribute to our community. It injects new energy into the site and, since most of us are better at responding to posts, new threads represent fresh, new opportunities to keep the site active.

  • Explore Different Forums! We are all creatures of habit. Most of us probably visit the same forums every time we come. Every now and then check out a new forum and post something in a forum that you've never posted in before. Again, the injection of new energy will be a great lift to our community!

  • Use StumbleUpon! The social networking phenomenon has taken over the web. StumbleUpon is a fantastic tool that takes your feedback (via thumbs up and down buttons) and brings you sites according to your preferences. By having this toolbar, and voting for content here that you like, you will also be recommending it to others who have this toolbar. This brings AfricanAmerica.org new members that are vital to our health and growth.

  • Take Ownership! Various forums and threads really thrive when individual members take real ownership of them. If you have a particular interest in something here, dive in and make it your own!

  • Blog! Blogging is the rage these days. You can start your own blog at AfricanAmerica.org without the hassle of software, servers, etc. You can customize it to your liking and share your thoughts with the world about anything and everything!

  • Invite Friends! We need more members here who can contribute to our mission of all things Intelligent. Black & Community. Do you know friends who you think would also appreciate our community? Invite them to join us.

  • Call/Listen to AfricanAmerica.org Radio! Our radio show is growing and improving every week. We are getting more listeners and more callers; the shows are a great way to extend what makes our community special to a new medium. It's a talk radio show and we need your participation! Listen in live on Thursday's at 9PM Eastern. Call in and let us know what's on your mind. You should know that the shows are also available via podcast. Listen in to the latest show via the media players located throughout the site. Past shows are also available by clicking a blogtalkradio link or by going here. Also, post your feedback or suggestions in the AfricanAmerica.org Radio thread.

  • Spread The Word! Many of you are also members at other black oriented sites. Mention this community there. Paste links there to interesting content here. Put "AfricanAmerica.org" in your "signature" on those sites. Help to spread the word at other sites that may have potential new members.

  • Give us Your Feedback! To be better we need your feedback. Please don't hesitate to tell us what you like. More important, though, please tell us what you don't like. That's how we move forward and improve!

  • I click on the sponsors, use Stumble Upon, participate in the forums, etc...

But one question: How do I start a blog? I've been trying to figure that out FOREVER and I can't seem to find the right thingie???

LOL...I went to type this and hit the enter button, then it posted before I was done!!!

I was saying, "Thank you, MBM!"

Topics: Will vary...from financial empowerment to "work at home" type work, to "home school" topics to "single parent" issues, etc...

I've got a lot to contribute...

Color Combination: Hey, do you have a nice Wine and Champaign color combo with some black in it or Ivory? Like the leaders (topic hats could be wine) and the background color could be Champaigne...maybe the type can be Wine or Black with either a brush script or Georgia type font?

A blog is just internet "real estate" that is yours to do with what you want. Take a look at some of the other blogs to get a feel for what you could do.

    MBM,

Brotha how are the links generated for this site? I've seen some good ones and wanted to know if they are generated by user's interest or by the forum's interest as a whole?

Are you talking about the Amazon links at the bottom of the page? They spider the pages and create links based upon the content - ostensibly.

    Good Morning Brotha MBM!

Actually, I was talking about the links at the top of the page. There's always some really good links up there, although I do appreciate the Amazon links as well...

Those are Google links - again spidered by Google to serve ads that are relevant to the content on the page. Thanks for asking about this because actually the greatest thing that a member can do (besides sending something to us via a card and PayPal) is to support the site by clicking links. If everyone clicked a few links every time they came here the site would be self-sufficient and be much healthier financially.
