We're going to have a great show tonight. There's LOTS going on - obviously - in the race for the nomination. We'll discuss what happened this Tuesday. Where does Barack go from here? Does he continue to campaign defenselessly - effectively letting Hillary attack him whenever and wherever and however she pleases? Or - does he pull off the gloves and let her have it? Can a black man in America been seen as aggressively attacking a white woman without significant repercussions? Can Barack attack Hillary without undercutting the essence of his campaign- which is about changing the way things are typically done in Washington?
There's LOTS to talk about with regard to this. ALSO - as I wrote earlier, I'll share some basic principles that I believe about success in life and in America. We all are trained to consume information in sound bytes. Like my favorite adage - "Whether you think you can or not, you're right" - I'll share a few quips and quotes that may resonate with you and offer some perspective about success in America. LISTEN IN tonight at 9PM Eastern via any of the links scattered throughout the site. Better yet - CALL ME and tell me what YOU think about all of this!! |

I thought we had a great show last night. We discussed the Democratic primary - Barack's position in the race and options going forward.
At the end, I also shared three principles that help to govern the way I approach life. I think you may find them relevant to you as well! Take a listen via the media player on the front forums page. You can also listen to this show and any others here. |

MBM, have you heard of the spoken word enlightening recording of "The Strangest Secret In The World" by Earl Nightingale? Your line sounds like something that I heard from Earl Nightingale. He said something like "You are what you think about" which seems similar to "Whether you think you can or not, you're right." Just curious if you've heard of his positive thinking tapes. "There are two things that are infinite, human stupidity and the universe...and I'm not too sure about the universe." --Albert Einstein |

The more I think about "Whether you think you can or not, you're right" I realize it's a question of motivation. But then it struck me. What's behind a lack of motivation, or that feeling of being stuck or in a rut? Then I thought about "Learned helplessness." I didn't remember the psychological definition just the feeling, so I looked it up:
"Learned helplessness is a motivational problem where one might have failed in a task or two in the past which have made that individual believe that they are incapable to do anything in order to improve their performance in that task(s)." (Stipek, 1988) I also found this video on youtube. *********************************** “It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have.†-- James Baldwin |

Brotha MBM, Thank you for this link! I have another commitment at the start of your show, however, I've been trying to get in towards the end of your show and listen in. I had been to the blogradio site for AfricanAmerica before, but it was not working for me then. HowEver, tonight, this linked worked just fine. The show was interesting...and the quote, "You are the average of the people you hang out with" is so true. A long time ago, one of my Black History professors at college suggested that as you learn more, you put yourself within a smaller circle of people simply because the average individual lives only in survival mode. This was very validating for me at the time given that I just couldn't understand what people's "deals" were....lol...one of the reasons I sought to study psychology. My key line at that time was, "I mean is it just me? Because I KNOW I got this right.....Isn't that just common sense or am I out in left field waiting for the ball to drop???" LOL.... Oh, and Brotha Huey....your ending line from the Good Book, "All things come to those who believe!" Yes, I can agree with that completely! "Wisdom Is A Woman Who Listens!" "Don't talk about it: BE ABOUT IT!" "To BE One, ASK ONE!" -OES |
