I, unfortunately, only got to hear the last 15 mins or so of the "live" program last week, but being able to go back and listen later is a great feature... It's kinda like "TIVO" for radio...
I thought the show went very well... You seem to be quite natural at hosting... There did not ever seem to be any "dead spots" in the progam and I found the segment with Sandye to be quite informative... I also think that the "call in" feature is a good idea, but he "chat in" feature was even better, except I had no idea about the "chat in" until I listened again later - maybe eahch time you give out the phone # you could also mention it as well... All and all I think that "AA.org Radio" is a great idea... Hey MBM ...
I haven't gotten a chance to listen to last week's show yet ... do I have to do so before next Thursday? Or are all the shows separately archived and I can (re)listen to any of them at any time? BLACK by NATURE, PROUD by CHOICE. Before there was ANY history, there was BLACK history. |

i like the show. I wish that so much time isn't devoted to sports. Is it possible to have solid show segments, i.e. black news, entertainment, sports, and a main topic [which should be the bulk of the show]. good job bro!!!

Yeah - we're definitely still experimenting with the "formula". I'm still not sure whether we should be going more in depth on issues as you suggest or being more topical to try to grab a broader cross section of listeners. Also - I'm trying to figure out the mix between trying to get interviews with guests versus just Joe and me. Yesterday we talked more about sports merely because the only caller we had called in during that section and we just went with it. It really wasn't planned that way. I was really surprised the The Black Church got no calls. P.S. The other thing is that I'm not trying to "report" the news. There are obviously far better places to go for that. What we offer is a bit of opinion - as well we are trying to stimulate others' opinions. So - over time we'll figure these things out. I appreciate your feedback and would love any other thoughts or suggestions that anyone has. |

What about the segments about Barry Bonds/Steroids and the gangsta rap?

I'm always torn as to when to call in. I usually have a thought or two on most of your radio topics. A lot of times, I'm scrambling to catch the live show. It just happens that you tend to put the sports stuff toward the end. Hopefully the 9PM start time will spark more callers.
Edit: Sorry, I had a cold yesterday, so my voice was struggling...

maybe you should add a your momma joke segment.... your momma so ugly, she makes blind people cry!!! just kidding...I think maybe some political talk, topics from Ebony magazine, more financial advice, new member welcomes, or maybe pick the hot topic of the week from this board. |

I like the new start time Bro. Michael,
Forgive me if you've already stated this but, may I ask what the topic(s) of discussion will be this week? Salaam... Peace, Khalliqa "The Goddess emerges as the evanescence of the inferior dissipates.... " |

A note:
I like the fact that the video sort of advertises the new topic.... Perhaps you would be able to promote a video in a weeks advance to give others who may be unfamiliar with the topic time to digest the information, form a decent enough opinion and generate enough curiosity to participate on the air.... I think you may have done this before... but if it is made policy, perhaps it will be something to look forward to and plan for... Salaam... I tried to call a couple of times ... but the funniest thing happened!! I would hear (through the phone) conversation that hadn't come through the "live radio" portion of the show yet!!
I was actually rather disappointed with this show ... which is why I tuned out early! BLACK by NATURE, PROUD by CHOICE. Before there was ANY history, there was BLACK history. |

Much like commercial radio Ebony, you have to turn your media player/radio down to zero and simply talk like you would on the phone any other time. The Blogtalk folk probably provide a 7 second delay, like commercial radio, to give the host a chance to dump (censor) a caller's comment if they have the appropriate equipment to do it. That's why the phone is ahead of the "live" broadcast.

Oh okay!! Well, I will keep that in mind for a time that I actually do get a chance to "talk"!
It was just weird because while I was waiting, I knew I was hearing stuff that wasn't connected to what I had just be listening to ... because it (on the phone) hadn't been said yet!! But, it's nice to have a rational explanation for what happened!! Thanks, DDub! BLACK by NATURE, PROUD by CHOICE. Before there was ANY history, there was BLACK history. |

Actually the delay, which is closer to 30-60 secs, is caused by the analogue to digital conversion process... and then streaming it... buffering and then converting back to analogue again... Over the phone, none of that has to happen... Thus the difference in arrival time between the two mediums...
The length of the delay is contingent upon the speed of your internet connection, the speed of your processor, and your distance from the point of origination of the broadcast... In other words, if ER and I had the exact same computers and the exact same type of internet connection, she would have more of a delay because she lives in Texas and I live in D.C... or if we lived next door to each other and she had dial-up and I had hi-speed she would have more of a delay... or my processor was super-duper (technical term) hi-speed and she had one from 10 yrs ago, she would have more of a delay... OK - Maybe since I'm closer to the location of the broadcast, that's why it's a short delay (like radio stations) for me.
Live & learn. Thanks AG Reminder from last week's show: Can you get Jason Whitlock on the show? ------------------------------ R.I.F. (Reading IS Fundamental)... Thanks, AG!! Shoulda known to ask the sound man!
Yeah, my delay was more like at least 30 seconds!! I guess the tricky part would be not saying something that was already said during that delay time!! However, I think it'd be best for me to stay relegated to a "listener" anyway! There's probably a good reason that MBM didn't pick up that phone! BLACK by NATURE, PROUD by CHOICE. Or you could do like DD suggested and turn down your "radio" or whatever you listen on while you are on the phone... Don't be shy!! I wish there was a way to listen to the "live" without having to call in, especially when you don't have anything to say for the topic du jour.

Huey you can. Just click the link at the top of most pages and you can listen to the live feed there. Let me know if this doesn't work for you, but about 5 minutes before the show airs a "Listen Live" button will come up on the blogtalkradio/africanamerica page. Just click it and you can listen live!
