This afternoon when I went to lunch, some trucks were parked near where I work, and they were unloading boxes off of them. I immediately knew what that meant. You see, I work across the street from a very busy commuter train stationm filled with people scrambling to get out of the city and back to their middle class lives in the higher income per capita suburbs. So it is great place to give out samples that you want to wind up in the middle class lifestyle.

So I, like most people I will take whatever it is, mostly out of curiosity (which is the purpose of the sample thing), although I live in the city. So it turns out that they were giving away Glade air fresheners, the kind you plug in. well two of them, one that has a fan or something.

So I take one and go to lunch. On the way back from lunch, there was another set of people across the street from where the truck of Glade products were. They were giving away energy saving light bulbs. Now all the lights in my apartment are energy savers except for two, so I take one of those too.

So at the end of my lunch, I like to sit on this bench and listen to some podcast. So as I make my way to my favorite bench (right at the foot of a lilac bush) I see these women from my office with armloads of these air fresheners, I mean like five or six of these bags (which are not all that small) running through the courtyard to get back to work.

People were lined up at the Glade trucks, taking as many as they could carry, I thought a riot was going to break out. The light bulb people, not so much. It is so typically american to take more than you need, waste half of what you take, to be totally inconsiderate of the needs (ha, yeah we need Glade) of others to the point of being ignorant of their existance and then complain when shit run out.

Not to even mention the irony of taking five glade fans & nightlights and skipping out on the energy saving light bulbs (well we all know they do stink).

*sigh*

Not it was not just black folk (but it was a lot of black folk).

It sucks that they are always giving away shit in where white folk exit the city, but never at the 'public transportation' hubs.
