I've never read any of your post before therefor I can not say if I see you as a hypocrite or not. But if I came across a thread in which you were speaking of some "pro Black" stuff I wouldn't take you seriously at all. Do I find it jarring? No. Disrespectful? A bit. This is after all a Black site. I'll say I probaly agree with most of the negative things said about you in regards to who you settled on.
In the end we are both Black but your not my kind of Black. |

If it were not here and she never said anything, no one here would know anything about who she was dating or even if she was dating. She is making us watch and that shit ain't cute. I could understand you posting, you have a sorta black woman (I think you referred to her in the not-black sense of Columbaniana or something) At any rate were it not for her, would you be here? So she is more or less your link to this site, well that and the math thing, but for her to not simply post a pic of her and him, but to use it in every post she makes us watch. Even this thread Me and My Mexican brings even more attention to her and him, as though there were already not enough. I say the picture is an affront. You say it is not. She is not "sorta black", she is black. Afrocolombiana. She was born and raised in a virtually all black region of Cauca until her early teens when she and her family moved to Valle under less than desirable circumstances. I have never referred to her as non-black. (And if I did, I had better not let her find out!)
I probably would still be here (except in the rather trivial sense that I might never have stumbled across this particular forum in my random walk through the internet). My link here is not my wife. Indeed, her general opinion is that computers, and in particular the internet, is a huge waste of time. (I'm not sure that she is wrong!) My link here is Lofton, who invited me (and everybody else who he could find!) here from another forum that I had just been invited to a couple of weeks earlier. I haven't posted at that other forum in years, but still post here.

The whole purpose of an avatar is a visual representation of the poster. That visual representation may be abstract, or it may be very concrete. I have used both. Currently, I am using a previously unknown species of hummingbirds reciently discovered in Colombia. Pretty abstract. At other times I have used a picture of my wife and I. I don't see anything particularly unusual about that. Certainly more on the concrete side.
Certainly, this thread is indeed bringing attention to her relationship with her boyfriend, and soliciting comments on her avatar. But that is a different matter than the use of the avatar itself. And everybody participating in this thread actually made a concious decision to click on a thread with the title "Me and My Mexican". I doubt that they are shocked...just shocked...
I had to actually look up the definition of the word "affront" on dictionary.com, to see whether the word reflects the mental state of the "affronter" or the "afrontee". It seems to be the former.
I don't see how it really fits either definition (1) or (2), which are the definitions of usage given there as a noun. It is certainly a fact that others might be offended by the sight of an avatar, or even by the sight of an interracial couple or a same sex couple walking hand in hand down the street. But I'm not sure how any of these qualify as an "affront", at least under either of the two meanings listed at dictionary.com.

ricardomath, your wife is definitely a descendant of an enslaved African, and even in america, but she is not black. Black people do not have access to terms like Cauca or Columbiana, and (this is a joke) black people do not wear white socks with sandals, even if they have feet like monkey hands.
Here is the black test. Q- Are you black? A- Yes. No qualifications about Indians or French or Columbia or Haiti. Just yes, plain and simple. We do make exceptions for Barack Obama, only because he, like Tiger Woods (who ain't black) had choices and unlike Tiger, said Black. The wonderful thing about being black is that we are not all that discriminating. You could be black if you wanted to (well after renouncing, attending a few marches, and learn how to dance.
