Fab: The following poem was written by a good friend of mine who is known by the screen name, "Black and Proud." You go girl!
When I read this poem I thought WOW!!!!!!!! Anyway. . . Check it out: How to love a Black Man.... I'll tell you how.... With dignity and self-respect....with iron passion 'Cuz it's different here....got to be strong...cuz he will test you 'Can't help it though....it's the nature of his beast... How to love a Black man.... I'll tell you how... With sweet tenderness as he lick his wounds...but don't be his weakness... Cuz he'll bite you...cuz he doesn't understand his anger...his pain...his lonliness.. He knows it's not you...but he's unable to get to the itch that's stratchin' his soul on fire... It's too deep...and you know his story....but you can't be his crutch....cuz he's a man.. How to love a Black Man I'll tell you how.... With raw compassion... but! stand back and let him bathe in its beauty... Don't suffocate him as he savors the nectar of discovery....he already can't breathe.... Let him be...let him feel the radiance of Black Love... Let him look at it....study it like the lion in the wild....let him claim it....as his own... Then watch him-watch the glow inside his spirit evolve..as his charas churn one by one.. How to love a Black Man.... I'll tell you how... Allow him to forgive himself...allow him to take ownership of "self".... Allow him to remove the invisible chains that shackles his mind, spirit and soul.... Allow him to see himself in the mirror of the universe...without interruption... Without distraction of "why can't you tell me you love me" ringing in his ears... The need to hear the heart beat of his soul releasing his shame will redeem him... Allow him to feel he always belonged to himself as a man, as a son, as a father... Allow him to realize he was always free the moment he inhaled life... Let him feel that...smell that....taste that...know that Let him feel he is no longer a slave...no longer in mental bondage...no longer helpless... How to love a Black Man.... I'll tell you how.... By allowing him to really love himself/know himself for the very first time.... Soonafter he will be empowered to honor the brilliance of his culture and behold the Magnificance of Black love...he will begin to understand his purpose/connection... And recognize his genetic intellect, his gift of spirituality and vision... He will begin to see why he must stand with men like him... And be the protector and savior of his culture... He must pass the torch of his newfound self-identity of manhood... Onto the manchild who looks to him for guidance... And it is then and only then will you be able to love him... How to love a Black Man... I'll tell you how... Very carefully, very slowly and very very...wisely....] Written by: Black and Proud Sending you positive energy... Black and Proud! |

Fab, I loved the piece. It was beautifully written and powerful. It also made me a bit sad.
If only our dear Brothers would allow us to get close enough to love and empower them, it would be beautiful. All I can say to my Brothers is, let your guard down and allow a Sister to love you. You haven't been truly loved in a relationship unless you can say that you have experienced the healing type of love that only a Sister can give you. There is one out there waiting patiently to love you slowly. Again, Fab, I love it. Every single word of it. |

I will pass them along to Black and Proud. I felt the same way when I read the poem and decided to asked if I could share it with all of you. Btw. . .I totally agree with everything you said about our dear brothers. . .it could be sooo beautiful [Black Love], if the brothers would just let us in. Sigh. |
