Day 4
I'm already losing a little weight, unfortunately. My jeans are already fitting loosely. Dangit! Don't look at me like that!! Hips & butt is ALL I have body-wise. But I knew this would happen. My reasons for going on this diet has nothing to do with weight loss. I really don't 'want' or need to lose a pound. Yes, I'll be smaller than normal for a while, but it can't be helped. Anyway, there's more information to add to the thread regarding the diet itself, for example -- what to eat once you come off the diet. . . . . .you can't start eating heavy foods immediately after 10 days of cleansing. I'll go more into what I mean [right from the book] a little later. Soon, K?. . . . . .soon. |

Day 5
Saturday. Hmmmmmm. . . What can I say about saturday, the 5th day of this lemonade diet? Well, the hunger pains were kicking my butt, THAT's what I can say about saturday. LOL. The heat was draining. But by 1 PM I was feeling much better. I drank a LOT of water and concentrated on other things besides food--like sex. Then I realized how appetizing sex can be... so I had to once again change my focus. Hey, I'm just sayin'. . . besides, don't listen to me, I haven't eaten anything in days. All in all. . .I'd say, moving right along.

Hi catch. Hmmmmm. . .I'm feeling ok. . . .in fact, I'm not doing any running, but I hadn't plan to while on this diet. All in all, I don't feel especially weak, but I am tired in the evenings. This could also be due..in part... to the heat we're experiencing in my neck of the woods. One thing for sure. . .the weight drops off very quickly. |

Actually, catch, the only problem I'm having with this diet is, well, sometimes I'm HUNGRY!!!! doggonit. lol BUT. . . every time I feel hungry I open another bottle. The book recommends no less than 6 bottles each day. For me, I'll drink two for breakfast, two for lunch, and two for dinner. Due to my snack attacks during the day, my grand total the end of the day is more like 10. To answer your question though, strength/energy wise, I feel great [better since it was a little cooler today in my area]. It's this heat we're experiencing these days [on the west coast] that is sapping my energy at times, not the diet. Course I'd be lying if I said it was easy. My motivation is. . .'knowing' that I am flushing all the impurities OUT of my body. I'm unclogging my lymph nodes, and giving my colon a good cleansing. I'm eliminating ALL the junk from my body, well, as much as possible using this method. THAT thought alone stops me from reaching for a bag of chips or driving through KFC. lol just kidding, I stopped eating KFC long ago.

Sandye!!!! And if you mess up [and eat something] before the 10 days are up, simply keep right on going--don't miss a beat. One thing. When you take the herb laxative at night and if you choose to go with the sea salt cleansing in the morning -- Remember to 'time' yourself because the sea salt & water REALLY WORKS, and will flush everything out within an hour's time. Not each time, but for the most part. I drink the sea salt & water at least an hour before I have to go to work. That way I won't get stuck in traffic with the need to ... you know what. The lemonade drink itself has a very nice taste to it, imo. You can add more or less of the cayenne pepper, but don't add any more of the lemon than required. And because the lemon is bad on the teeth [the enamel], I suggest extra brushing from what you normally do. I'll post the recipe for the 'vegetable soup' recommended, when coming off the diet. |

Day 7 (was on July 31)
Although the lemonade diet [drink] has a nice taste to it, there's no denying I crave solid food. What works for me is reminding myself WHY I'm doing this in the first place. I think of all the antibiotics & pain medication I had to take right after my auto accident. I think of ALL the junk I've eaten, and the coffee I drink -- and we all know how caffeine causes lumpy breasts in women. . . . . .I think of my daughter. I'd like to stay healthy for myself as well as for her. None of us 'eliminate' as often as we should. I have to invest in my own good health. This is a start. For me, it's all a mental thing. Sooooo, my people, give yourself all the good reasons for doing an internal cleansing of your body. That's what *I* do. |

Day 8
When I drink the sea salt & water in the morning, I usually drink it warm. But, you can drink it cold or even room temperature. For me, I like it better 'warm' because it's morning time, after all. The sea salt & water really flushes everything out. . .I think to myself, damn! I'm glad I got THAT out of me. ~snicker~ but . . but. . .I'm getting bored with it. That's where my vivid imagination comes into play. . .I pretend I'm drinking my morning coffee, only it taste funny. lol Oh and, today I longed for a peach. But I'm proud of myself for holding out this long. I say to myself. . .YOU GO GURL. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Then I open another bottle of the Master Cleanser aka Lemonade diet & drink up. Yep, I'm feeling good. |

DAY 1
Well, I've started the master cleanser. . . Usually, it takes eight 12 oz bottles to get me through the day, but I added two extra bottles just in case. I'll lighten up on my work out schedule during this time. . . other than that. . . Here we go.

The "master cleanse," or lemonade diet, has resurfaced in Hollywood as a weight loss aid. However, this cleanse, which natural healer Stanley Burroughs created in the 1940s and wrote about in the The Master Cleanser (Burroughs, 1976), was intended to eliminate toxins from the body, not shed pounds.
The cleanse, which lasts 10 days or longer, consists of drinking 6 to 12 glasses daily of a mixture of lemon or lime juice, Maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and spring or purified water. It provides about a third of the calories an average adult needs a day. As a result, a significant amount of weight may be lost, but the pounds seldom stay off. I did this cleanse occasionally in the '70s and found the drink very satisfying. Burroughs and others claim that regular cleansing is necessary to eliminate disease, and some people report relief from various ailments, including joint pain and high blood pressure but there's no scientific proof that this cleanse is responsible. BOTTOM LINE I think it's fine to do a 10-day cleanse once or twice a year if you're trying to give your GI system a break, but it's absolutely not a magic bullet for lasting weight loss. Anyone with insulin sensitivity or other serious health conditions should avoid this type of cleansing. Excerpt taken from Dr. Andrew Weil's 'Self healing' magazine 2007 annual edition |

Safe Steps for First-Time Fasters
When done for one to three days, a water-only or juice fast can be a positive cleansing experience for both the body and mind. But fasting requires thought and preparation; these suggestions can help you plan your cleansing experience. BEFORE Set realistic expectations Fasting won't jump-start a weight loss program since it actually slows metabolism. But people often describe a sense of lightness and mental clarity, and say that hidden emotions can surface. Select a weekend First-timers should choose a weekend day to start their fast to avoid the strains of work and other responsibilities, to rest when needed, and to spend less time around others who might be eating--a temptation that could thwart a faster's goal. Decide if you're fasting from sundown to sundown or sunrise to sunrise; there's no real advantage of one over the other. Wean the caffeine To avoid a headache from caffeine withdrawal, you can either wean yourself off it in the days preceding your fast or include caffeinated teas during it. DURING Slow down It's unrealistic for fasters to go about their usual activities. Conserve your energy by listening to relaxing music, reading, meditation, and napping. If you want to exercise, limit yourself to walking, yoga, tai chi, or other forms of gentle movement. Anticipate discomfort Fasting can be difficult. Side effects, which often subside, can include dizziness, fatigue, irritability, bad breath, and headaches. You might feel cold, since your body temperature drops, and also experience body aches or skin breakouts. Get ample liquids For a water-only fast, drink enough to urinate frequently, about 64 to 96 ounces of liquids a day. For a juice-only fast, aim for the same quantities of fluids, but dilute bottled fruit juices with water or sparkling water to decrease their concentration of sugar or acidity, or drink full-strength vegetable juices, which contain less sugar. You can also make your own using a juicer or blender. Two of my favorite homemade blends: carrot-apple-ginger and celery-carrot-onion. Test your recipes before you begin fasting. Take your medications Don't forgo your regular medications or supplements during a fast unless they're not appropriate on an empty stomach. It's fine to skip any fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins D, E, or mixed carotenoids, which are best absorbed when taken with a meal containing some fat. Stay regular For fasts longer than a day, I'd suggest taking a natural laxative like psyllium. Mix one tablespoon of powder into a large glass of water and drink, followed by another tall glass of water, every morning. AFTER Eat lightly Break your fast carefully and gradually. First eat plain, simple foods like fresh fruits, juices, soups, or salads in small amounts, later easing in some cooked whole grains. Don't gorge or go for heavy foods. Recognize that fasting may renew your motivation to live well and give you a newfound appreciation for food and hunger. Excerpt from Dr. Andrew Weil's essential guide to 'Natural Healing' Please note: When using the lemonaide diet aka master cleanser, the book [The Master Cleanser] has it's own suggestions for 'staying regular' and coming off the fast. The above is just insight for those who are first-time fasters. |
