Good morning people....
No running/jogging for me for a while, I'm planning to go on what's called a lemonade diet; which is actually a body cleansing. Well, I do plan 'some' form of exercise, but nothing too taxing. The cleansing takes 10 days to complete, so I'm taking this time to mentally prepare myself. I'll start the cleansing on Monday, and I'll start a new thread topic as well, that way I can post in detail...the lemonade diet itself, and what I believe are the benefits of this diet/cleansing, although, true enough, it's not for everybody. Have a great day everyone |

What exactly is the lemonade diet?
Is it some sort of excuse to lay back and drink "Countrytime" all day? Peace, AudioGuy ************************************************* "I am African, not because I was born in Africa; but because Africa was born in me" -Anonymous "The cost of Liberty is less than the cost of repression." -W.E.B. The tragic irony here is that a lot of African Americans may not fully recognize the implications of this decision for years to come. Stop by any barbershop, barbeque or church basement in Black America and you will hear – with distressing frequency – that old canard that "integration" ruined the Black community. Humph! Not on my watch. Actually, the lemonade diet is a body cleansing process. I use this method twice a year [for the last 5 years or so]. . .well, with the exception of my recovery time during last year's auto accident. Anyway, I'll give more details in the new thread I'm starting. . . . . .Better ask somebody. LOL. (I'm kidding) Sorry, but I crack myself up.

Good morning people
I'm still getting up at 4 am [habit] but instead of going to the park to run/walk, I've decided to do a series of body stretches & floor exercises. I rode the stationary bike for about 15-20 minutes but I don't intend to ride it everyday. While on this diet I plan to take it easy. Today I sat quietly with my legs crossed & eyes closed, taking deep cleansing breaths, exhale. . . . . .remembering to keep my back straight. It's interesting the thoughts that go through your mind when you sit very still & quiet. Personally, I felt a familiar sense of gratitude. . . . . .for life; my life and everything in it. That's my thought for the day, as it is everyday, well, nearly everyday. . . . . .graditude. For everything. |

It's monday Oct.23, nearly 3 months since my last post in this thread. Well, I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak, good morning people!!!!
I'm just returning from my morning run and it was DARK & chilly out there...also very quiet. Very Halloween-nish. OOOOOoooooooo. I don't particularly enjoy running in the dark. Today I couldn't help BUT keep an eye out & very very conscious of my surroundings...all the bushes & trees were excellent hiding places if someone wanted sneak up on me & do me harm--not a good thing or a good thought. A reality/possiblity all the same. There was nobody there this morning and against my better judgment I ran anyway. On the other hand, it WAS a nice run all things considered. I enjoy the early morning 'quiet' time, and I like getting it [my run] out of the way. There's a lot to be said for simply getting it done. Anyway, I'm ready to jump in the shower now, get dressed and start my day. My thought for today: Whatever comes my way on this day -- I'll handle it. Y'all have a good one... |

Tuesday. . .
Good morning people. It's almost 4am and I'm leaving for my morning run soon. Like yesterday it's dark outside, but today I'm going to a high school track--a place where there're no bushes or trees to concern myself with ... and I'm also meeting with a group of folks, so I won't be alone. The first thing I did when I woke up this morning [after turning off the alarm, that is] was go through a series of stretches & deep breathing exercises. I'm feeling pretty good these days and right now, I'm ready to go. I plan to do my usual...walk 2 miles, run 3. Sometimes I will run 4, but not today. Catch y'all later. . . Have a good one & be good to one another. |

Good morning people!!!
I stayed in today and used the treadmill instead of going to the park...in fact, I will use the treadmill 'more often' from now on ... at least until the time changes, that is. It's just too dark outside [at 4am] for me to continue going to a public park... Believe it or not, but my mother will be very happy to hear this ... as well as a few other folks that I know. lol Anyway, the treadmill actually takes less time, it's just very boring. I like "scenary" when I run. But lookie here, I made it through without too much boredom. Ran 4 miles, walked 2 My thought for the day: Bring it! Have a good day everyone... |

Good morning people, it's THURSSSSSSSDAY!!!!!
I'm such a creature of habit. I decided to stop drinking coffee about 3 weeks ago, and in it's place I now drink chocolate soymilk. It took me a week to get accustomed to the taste, now I drink it and actually enjoy it. LOL. *ahem* Guess what *I* did??? [I'm so dang smart..lol] I moved the treadmill to the patio [well, a friend moved it for me] so I now have a clear view of the backyard & my garden as I run. There's enough light back there that I can appreciate the beauty of it all. It's all a mental thing for me. If I gotz me something to look at--I'm cool. Well,*cough* along with a magazine, ipod, and big screen tv. It wasn't so bad really...as I mentioned in a previous post, the treadmill takes less time. I actually ran 4 miles and walked two in 50 minutes. Anyway, time to get it gear, this sista has places to go and people to see. Y'all have a good day. My thought for today: Don't settle for a routine life, if that's not what you want. |

Good morning people, it's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!
And no treadmill for me today, I'm on my way to play racquetball with mr. fireman [yes, we're still hanging tough]. I think I'll take pictures while I'm there [& no, *I* won't be in the pics...y'all will just have to take my word for it. Anyway, have an extra special day, ppl, and if you can -- be good to one another. I know sometimes it's a challenge. LOL. MLMB/Ss |

Good morning people, it's Saturday!!!!
another beautiful day, however, I went to bed last night feeling totally EXHAUSTED and woke up this morning feeling EXHAUSTED. Trying to do too many things for too many ppl. I suppose. Well, THAT and it's been hot weather-wise, lately. anyway, I rolled out of bed with a headache, so I've decided to take it easy this morning. Perhaps a little later I 'might' go for a walk or something but right now, I'm too tired to care. No running this morning. Sometimes it pays to be sensitive to what our body is telling us, even when it tells us to take it easy, take it slow, sit yo tired ass down & relax. This ain't easy for a person like me, but my momma didn't raise no fool. I'm supposed to work today, and for sure, I'll pull it together soon enough, we'll see. In the meantime, have a great day everyone. . . Thought for today: I'm giving "myself" a tight hug |

(picking up where I left off a year ago. . .this is the first post in this thread in a year, almost to the day) Good morning people, it's MONNNNNNNNNNNNNDAAAAAAY So far, the day has started out on the gloomy side (weather wise), but my morning consisted of 30 minutes of meditation and an hour on the treadmil (4 1/2 miles). I feel my strength returning, in fact, I'm feeling mighty good at the moment. The news of my friend's illness threw me for a loop, but I'm back on track both emotionally & physically. Wow. What a difference a week makes. And I'm 'still' jamming to Mary J. Blige. . . check it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRF1Q8JjyH4 Y'all have a great day today and keep your head up...cuz you. are. just. FINE.

Good morning people,
Putting in time for myself has been a real effort lately. When I wake up, I have to talk myself into, at least, 45 minutes on the treadmill. The time change prevents me from going to the park [because it's still too dark outside at 4:30am], so I don't have the birds chirping in the trees or the early morning sounds & scents to inspire me. and I need extra inspiration these days. . . cuz I have a lot on my plate. . . my stress levels are high and it's taking a LOT more motiviation [& thank G.d for music] to get me through my morning exercise. But I did it and I admit. . .I feel better. . .I feel stronger. . . strong enough to tackle the rest of the day. bring it! Fab<<<<~~~~~ran 2 miles, walked 1 |

Good morning people. . .
What better way [for me] to start Jan. 02, 2008 than to change my workout routine I received a brand new 'Spinner' for christmas and I love it! I had plan to start out slow and only spend 30 minutes on it the first week. . . but before I knew it. . .45 minutes had gone by. Now I'm thinking, wow, I should've gotten myself a Spinner a long time ago. A change in my workout is the best thing I could've for myself physically. . . I realize now I was in a rut doing the same ole same ole. Oh, well, live & learn. Have a great day everyone and consider this. . . ANY TIME is a good time to start exercising and taking better care of yourself. I'm in the best physical shape I've ever been in my life and damn. . . it feels GREAT!!! |

Good morning people. . .
No exercise for me today, well, I don't usually exercise on sundays anyway. . . but, because this is the first day of my cleanse, I spent one hour meditating and practiced a 'relaxed breathing' exercise. It's been raining heavily out here for the last couple of days. . . we even had a few flash flood warnings, and the electricity went out [yesterday] for a full 2 hours. All in all, when I look outside, I see a beautiful, brand new day. It's all good. Inhale deeply, exhale slowly. |

Breathing Basics
Below are several tips and exercises to guide you in the healing art of breathing. Keep in mind that the benefits of breath work are not immediate. They depend on daily practice and develop gradually and cumulatively. Observe your breath Whether you are just beginning or already a seasoned practitioner, the most subtle and powerful form of breath work is also the simplest: Just follow your breath. Sit or lie with your spine straight, close your eyes, and focus your attention on your breathing, without trying to influence it. Notice that following your breath is pleasant and relaxing, a way of putting your mind and body in neutral. If your mind starts to wander, jut gently bring it back to your breathing. Many Eastern adepts have claimed that it's possible to attain enlightenment by doing nothing other than paying attention to the breath. Certainly there are far worse places to put your attention--such as on your thoughts, for example, or on images you have in your mind, both of which can be sources of anxiety and unhappiness. I recommend that you practice this simple meditation five minutes each day. Make your breathing slow, deep, and regular The more you can move your breathing in these directions, the more efficient your respiration will be, the more oxygen will be delivered to organs, and the more harmoniously your nervous system will function. Whenever you think about it, whether stopped at a red light, sitting at your desk, or waiting in a supermarket line, practice taking a series of breaths in which you consciously try to make your breath slower, deeper, quieter, and more regular. Taking slower, deeper breaths is also a handy stress-reduction technique. If you watch people who are angry, anxious, or otherwise upset, their breathing always changes in the direction of being rapid, shallow, noisy, and irregular. Inevitably, these two conditions go together--and, conversely, it's impossible to be upset if your breathing is slow, deep, quiet, and regular. Next time you're tense, take note of your breath and watch how it changes in the moment. Dr. Andrew Weil's essential guide to Natural Healing |

Breathing techniques that I practice.
Again, the following info. was taken from Dr. Andrew Weil's 'essential guide to Natural Healing' **************** Exercise 1: The Relaxing Breath The most time-efficient and effective relaxation method I have found is the yoga-derived Relaxing Breath that I teach to virtually all my patients. This breathing exercise produces a pleasant altered state, which feels better and better as you practice it regularly. 1. Sit or lie comfortably with your back straight, and place your tongue in what's called the yogic position: Touch the tip of your tongue to the back of our upper front teeth and slide it up until it rests on the ridge of tissue between your teeth and palate. Keep it there for the duration of the exercise. 2. Making an audible whoosh sound, exhale completely through the mouth. 3. Close your mouth lightly. Inhale through your nose to the count of 4. 4. Hold your breath for the count of 7. 5. Exhale audibly through your mouth to the count of 8. If you have difficulty exhaling with your tongue in the yogic position, try pursing your lips. Repeat steps 3 though 5 three more times, for a total of four breath cycles. Then breathe normally and notice any changes in how your body feels. |
