HALLIBURTON GETS KATRINA CLEAN UP CONTRACT- WHY???

This is very sad. Cheney, Bush, Karl ROve and his friends will probably get paid for this contract too. DOn't you love how your tax dollars are being spent?

If thousands of people who worked for constructions companies are now UNEMPLOYED, why not put those people to work doing the cleanup? Employed those people, now without incomes or homes, who want to help rebuild their city instead of an outside corporation raking in billions every day. Frankly, I'd rather my tax dollar went to someone now without employment & want to contribute to it's rebuilding.

Jim, everything this administration seems to be doing lately is half-assed. Give hundreds of thousands of people "unemployment checks," which only last for a couple of weeks, instead of letting them have actual work. Better yet, put thousands of construction companies & their employees out of business so Halliburton, who is raking in billions per day, can add to their bank roll.

I've been saying it since they were Installed, the Day the Count on Votes was Stopped was the Day Whatever we once called Democracy Stopped, and 2004 just enhanced the Direction!!!

A couple of years ago, I watched a television broadcast of W and LAURA at a Christmas party for the children of While House staff. This is how I recall it. The room was richly panelled in wood, and the children sat on the carpet, rapt in the presence of the President. Many - if not all - of the little ones were Black, and wore white shirts, red sweaters and festive tartans. The President had a black Scottie dog on his knee, and joked that his dog was hoping for antlers so he could be one of Santa's reindeer. Otherwise W had little to say. Even boring Queen Elizabeth asks people no-fail set questions, like "Have you come far?" but W did not try to draw out any of the kids. He glanced up at the children a few times, but not to make eye contact. Laura was pleasantly benign, but W almost seethed with resentment . W stroked his dog with a malignity that reminded me of 007's villain who petted his white cat. This just isn't RIGHT, I thought, except for a Grinch....
