For months now, our illustrious founder has been mounting a one-man crusade to get Barack Obama elected as the next President of the United States. It must be hard because I know his nature is to try to be impartial about things Razz. And also uncharacteristically, he hasn't been very subtle about it either! Big Grin

But, I have to admit that his persistence is paying off! No, I'm not about to jump up and run to my polling place just standing there waiting until April when I can cast my vote! Eek But .. he's got me at least thinking about what he's been saying ... Obama's capabilities and the comparison between he and Hillary.

One of the reasons I've not given it too much consideration is because I've had no thought about voting for either one of them! And .. as of this writing, that hasn't changed. I realize that Kucinich has less than a snowball's chance in hell of winning the nomination, but, he really needs to know that he's not alone!! And that some of us Americans do hear him and realize that he is the best and only man who has a plan that would benefit African America ... whether that was the intention or not!

And I figure(d) I'd let the rest of America duke it out and send me a candidate to vote for in 2008. Because, as I've said before, policy- and issue-wise, I really don't see a difference between the two platforms of Hillary or Obama. You're going to get a "tow-the-Democratic-Party-line" president no matter who sits in that chair. And we know where and how far that gets us. I mean, after all .. we've had about 40 years of experience already, in how much we are appreciated by the Dem Party for our loyalty and our vote. sck

BUT ... what if I were going to make a choice between Hillary and Barack? Confused What if it came to that? Where would my loyalties lie? 19 Since they are, essentially, two peas out of the same pod, what would be the difference, the deciding factor which would make give them my tfro?

On the one hand, I could easily give my vote to Obama .. who I believe is very capable of filling the position of president. AND he's a Brotha! And, yes, he gets big time Brownie points for that!! On the other hand, though, I believe Hillary, too, is quite capable of handling the presidency. And, I firmly believe that at this point and time in our history, we NEED a woman to run this country! It's time to straighten some of this mess out! Razz

Right now, I'm glad that I'm not thinking about having to make that decision, because it really is a tough one to ponder. 19 But, I am going to think about it more in depth now. MBM's hardball, arm-twisting tactics notwithstanding, I am closer to a vote for Obama than I ever have been before! Plus you throw in his *Brotha* points, and the scales do tip, at least slightly in his favor.

I think, though, that if I were to vote for Obama, it wouldn't be for any of the reasons that MBM has put forth in his diligent campaigning of the man! Big Grin I would vote for Obama as a deep hope for change, for something entirely different! I would hope that his inexperience would be the factor that worked for him most, because I think that America, itself, would be transformed.

But, I'm not ready to cast my little buddy Dennis to the side just yet. Eek He's still the man to beat .. but the race is getting much closer than it used to be.

If I were FORCED to choose, I would choose Obama. Why? Because Hillary Clinton is extremely ugly with a death look in her eyes, and Barrack is a brother. That would be exactly my reasoning.

Truth be told, in reality I do believe Obama would be a better president than Hillary for a variety of reasons. I think ultimately he would be a more reflective president, a less insecure president, and better able to accommodate alternative beliefs.

Anyway --------> Go Huckabee!

Why We Wish The Clintons Would Just Go Away

Paul Jenkins

Posted December 15, 2007 | 11:49 AM (EST)

Because they surround themselves with people like Mark Penn and James Carville (Rove-like figures, just dumber and more duplicitous than Karl), and rather than making the Clintons look pure by contrast, they make them look even sleazier.

Because they lie more often than they tell the truth, and we can't take it anymore (where to begin? Ah, perhaps, one of Bill's freshest: he was always against the war in Iraq).

Because when they don't lie, they avoid telling the truth, prevaricate and try to laugh it off.

Because they have spun us into complete exhaustion (she, the most famous woman in America, complains that Iowa is difficult because she is less well known than a failed vice presidential candidate and a half-of-one-term senator).

Because they live on another planet, one where attacking a candidate's kindergarten record is appropriate and useful preparation for a general election.

Because he's the first black president as long as it doesn't interfere with their plans for world domination (when it does, they can turn into Jesse Helms and Trent Lott on a dime, from the Sista Souljah absurdity to the suggestion that the first black candidate with a shot at winning the presidency is a drug dealer).

Because she's a feminist until it is her own husband who abuses his power by engaging in sexual relationships with women who are his subalterns. Then she becomes a woman who stands by her man.

Because she's a strong, independent woman until she needs to ride the coattails of her husband's popularity. Then she is two for the price of one.

Because long before New York City taxpayers were subsidizing Rudy Giuliani's extramarital affair, Arkansans were paying for Bill's.

Because when she says there will be no surprises about her past in this campaign, we remember all the scandals we glossed over because it was all a right-wing conspiracy, and realize how little we know about the Clintons.

Because they, the reason why heterosexuals should be banned from getting married (or at the very least should be prosecuted for breach of contract), oppose marriage for gay people.

Because they'd rather die than admit a mistake.

Because Republicans would rather run against her than against Dennis Kucinich.

Because the prospect of 16 years of Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton would make us seriously consider voting for Cynthia McKinney and the Green Party. Or Ron Paul. Or Michael Bloomberg. Or whoever's on the Socialist Party line.

Because the Clintons are angry that America doesn't just roll over and elect her president the way New York rolled over and elected her senator.

Because we don't have to settle for them.

If I get a chance to vote for a Black man for President of the United States of America, I will. I hope all those whites who love Oprah and live and breathe on her every word will vote for Obama.

CLINTON BACKER BOB KERREY ON SMEARING OBAMA...

While campaigning on behalf of Hillary Clinton this week, former Senator Bob Kerrey became the fourth Clinton supporter this month to raise a false smear against Barack Obama, one of her main rivals for the Democratic nomination. Adopting the bigoted language of lies that have circulated about Obama on the Internet, Kerrey falsely implied that Obama attended an Islamist school; falsely said that Obama had "chosen" to be Christian; and falsely claimed Obama was repelled by his own middle name. Obama is actually a life-long Christian and a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. In January, CNN debunked the smears against him, reporting that allegations that he "was educated in a radical Muslim school known as a ‘madrassa' are not accurate." In October, The Nation's Chris Hayes traced how false emails about Obama have gained traction online.

The smears come after several other dirty tricks from Clinton backers were exposed this month. Last week, Clinton Campaign Co-Chair Bill Shaheen falsely implied that Obama had a drug problem or possibly dealt drugs, while Clinton Campaign Pollster Mark Penn repeated similar charges on MSNBC. After over 24 hours of criticism, the Clinton Campaign announced that Shaheen made the personal decision "to step down" because the comments were unauthorized. On Monday, however, Clinton said that actually "we asked him to step down." Earlier this month, two volunteer chairs resigned from the Clinton Campaign after sending emails lying about Obama's religion, while a third Clinton volunteer was on the same email chain.

Yet Kerrey's comments are distinct because he is the highest level Clinton supporter to publicly push the Muslim smears against Obama, and he is also ratcheting up the rhetoric. In a series of high profile interviews, Kerrey has gone out of his way to cover every aspect of the smears – saying "Muslim," "madrassa," "Hussein" and that Obama chose Christianity – and also raising traitorous language. Pressed about his comments on CNN, Kerry purported to distance himself from the very smear campaign he was advancing: "There is a smear campaign going on. And people are acting as if he's an Islamic Manchurian candidate." That phrase only turns up 29 hits on Google, however, and nine of the references quote Kerrey. So very few "people are acting" or saying that – unless they're discussing Kerrey's sly effort to raise the line of attack.

In a Sunday interview with ABC, Kerrey offered some bizarre advice on ads Obama "should" run. "There's this nonsense out there about him being a Muslim Manchurian candidate. He should do a commercial, look the camera straight in the eye, and say, 'My wife Michelle and I are Christians, but my father was a Muslim and my paternal grandfather was a Muslim, and that fact and my name means I can speak to a billion people around the world…" Apparently, Kerrey thinks people will believe that as an experienced pol, his strategy to dispel a "Muslim Manchurian" smear is to run ads that say "Muslim" more often than "Christian."

Unlike the uproar over the other smears this month, however, the Clinton Campaign is not distancing itself from Kerrey's offensive. "I know Bob. He was being very complimentary of Sen. Obama," said Clinton, according to Tuesday's Quad City Times, an Iowa newspaper. Kerrey has assiduously wrapped the smears in complimentary language, yet that approach may also suggest how deliberately he is pushing each message. Channeling the bigoted attacks on Obama, for example, he repeatedly raises the middle name "Hussein." Thus he told the Washington Post: "It's probably not something that appeals to him, but I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama." Of course, there is no evidence that Obama is repelled by his name. As The New York Times Caucus blog noted Monday night, "We don't think we've seen anywhere that Mr. Obama has disowned his name." Kerrey found another way to emphasize Hussein in his ABC interview, while ostensibly explaining his "second" reason for deciding that Obama has enough experience to be president: "His name is Barack Hussein Obama. I know that middle name is seen as a weakness by Republicans, but I don't think it is." The name "Hussein" compensates for inexperience and carries no electoral cost? Can anyone take these shifting arguments seriously? Whether assessing candidates, Obama's inner feelings, or G.O.P. strategy -- everything goes back to the smears for Kerrey.

So far, many reporters have given Kerrey the benefit of the doubt while further airing the smears. Under the misleading headline MADRASSAGATE, the Daily News even swooned that Kerrey offered "so powerful a compliment that one might think he was on the stump for Obama instead of Clinton." An odd claim, since the two words you never hear Obama backers say on TV are madrassa and Hussein. Americablog's John Aravosis, who is generally supportive of Clinton, called on the Clinton Campaign to muzzle their newest backer: "Kerrey is doing the dirty work of the Clinton campaign, or he's a rogue agent spreading racism in their name. Either way, the Clinton campaign needs to stop this, now."

He's right. Clinton should disown Kerrey's comments immediately. Given the stakes in this election and the costs of (even a perception) of lying character assasination in Iowa, I think both the Clinton and Obama campaigns would be better off without Kerrey's "complimentary" smears.

See ... and this, unfortunately, is probably what causes the biggest problem for me, when it comes to this subject.

While I realize that you do have other, more valid reasons for your choice (although I totally disagree with your decision not to vote at all) there are so many people for whom your reasoning above would be the most prominent one that they have! Eek

I can respect HonestBrother's not caring much for Hillary because of her politics (or, perhaps rather those of her husband Razz) And there's a lot of people who dislike her for less than that! But, as a people we have got to become more issue-savvy. And pick our battles ... and our candidates .. based on those issues and the resulting impact they will have on our community.

We can't afford to keep voting a popularity contest in place of important elections. Roll Eyes

Oh well at the expense gaining some pariah points on this board my logic indicates that Hillary will be presdient, John Edwards will be V.P. and brotha Barak will be Attorney General.

Why?; an assassins bullet will write finis to Barak's career and if elected he'll be under the most intense scrunity ever afforded any president meeting an uphill battle to any reforms he chooses to make to the point of being rendered useless.

Now as an Attorny General he could reform and possibly repeal laws anathema to the African American population, have access to the listening ear of Hillary ( she'll not want to alienate the A.A. population) and he could serve as her advisor to issues affecting the A.A. community. Politically we should as subtle as doves with the sting of a cobra(a.k.a. being tactical).

I happen to agree 100% with your logic, Zodo! Smile

I simply do not believe that on any level, America is ready to elect a Black man as president. And I just cannot see it happening. Roll Eyes

I do believe that Hillary would pick John Edwards for VP over anybody else. I would hope that she'd get a little more creative and ask Obama to do it .. but, for some reason, I don't think he'd accept! sck

I really am enjoying this election though. It's history in the making, and all of us are a part of it. And I also think that through this historical value, America is in the process of taking a turn. Let's just hope it's down the right road this time. 19
