If it's not one of those universal songs, name a hymnal that it can be found in.

If you miss me at the back of the bus
You can't find me nowhere
Come on over to the front of the bus
I'll be riding up there

I'm not sure this is in a hymnal...

but there's a song called

I need thee

and when black people sing it in that slow, haunting way.... acapella

it can make one cry

it goes something like

I need Thee, oh I need Thee
every hour, I need Thee
Bless me now, my savior
I come to Thee

I think it's usually sung before altar call (to prayer) or baptisms.

It's like i can feel history and the spirit and moaning in the song all at the same time...
whew!

I need thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
no tender voice like thine can peace afford.
Refrain:
I need thee, O I need thee;
every hour I need thee;
O bless me now, my Savior, I come to thee.

2. I need thee every hour; stay thou nearby;
temptations lose their power when thou art nigh.
(Refrain)

3. I need thee every hour, in joy or pain;
come quickly and abide, or life is vain.
(Refrain)

4. I need thee every hour; teach me thy will;
and thy rich promises in me fulfill.
(Refrain)

5. I need thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me thine indeed, thou blessed Son.
(Refrain)

Click on the link and you can hear the plain straight version of it...but I have never ever ever ever heard black people sing/play it

plain and straight

I need thee every hour

I Know Who Holds Tomorrow

I don't know about tomorrow,
I just live from day to day.
I don't borrow from it's sunshine,
For it's skies may turn to gray.
I don't worry o'er the future,
For I know what Jesus said,
And today I'll walk beside Him,
For He knows what is ahead.

Refrain
Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

Ev'ry step is getting brighter,
As the golden stairs I climb;
Ev'ry burden's getting lighter;
Ev'ry cloud is silver lined.
There the sun is always shining,
There no tear will dim the eyes,
At the ending of the rainbow,
Where the mountains touch the sky.

Refrain
Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

I don't know about tomorrow,
It may bring me poverty;
But the One Who feeds the sparrow,
Is the One Who stands by me.
And the path that be my portion,
May be through the flame or flood,
But His presence goes before me,
And I'm covered with His blood.

Refrain
Many things about tomorrow,
I don't seem to understand;
But I know Who holds tomorrow,
And I know Who holds my hand.

Precious Lord, take my hand,
Lead me on, let me stand,
I am tired, I am weak, I am worn;
Through the storm, through the night,
Lead me on to the light:

Refrain

Take my hand, precious Lord,
Lead me home.

When my way grows drear,
Precious Lord, linger near,
When my life is almost gone,
Hear my cry, hear my call,
Hold my hand lest I fall:

Refrain

When the darkness appears
And the night draws near,
And the day is past and gone,
At the river I stand,
Guide my feet, hold my hand:

Refrain

Have yall heard Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child and
Shirley Caesar singing

Steal Away???

you'll need kleenex

MICHELLE WILLIAMS
Steal Away to Jesus
[feat. Pastor Shirley Ceaser]

Steal Away.
Steal Away.
Steal Away.
Steal Away to Jesus.
Steal Away.
Steal Away home.
I haven't got long to stay here.

Steal Away.
Steal Away.
Steal Away.
Steal Away to Jesus.
Steal Away. (steal home)
Steal Away home.
I haven't got long to stay here.

My lord, my lord, he calls me. (calls me)
He calls me by the thunder. (thunder)
The trumpet sounds way down in my sanctified soul.
I haven't got long to stay here.

Green trees are bending. (are bending)
Sinners stand a-tembling. (a-trembling)
The trumpet sounds within my soul.
I haven't got long to stay here.

Steal Away. (in the midnight hour)
Steal Away. (when you need some power)
Steal Away.(when you heart is heavy)
Steal Away to Jesus. (steal away to jesus)
Steal Away. (steal away home)
Steal Away home. (haven't got long)
I haven't got long to stay here.

My Lord , he calls me. (calls me)
I can hear him calling me by the lightning.
(lightnin')
The trumpet sounds within my soul.
I haven't got long to stay here.

(its gonna be over after while)
Steal away to Jesus. (oh)
Steal away. Steal Away Home
Steal Away to jesus.
I haven't got long to stay here.
I haven't got long to stay here. (hallelujah steal
away)
I haven't got long to stay here.

Everything.

Any of what Mama calls "praise."

Hold to GOD's unchanging hand

Got no love for politicians
Or that crazy scene in D.C.
It's just a power mad town
But the time is ripe for changes
There's a growing feeling
That taking a chance on a new kind of vision is due

I used to trust the media
To tell me the truth, tell us the truth
But now I've seen the payoffs
Everywhere I look
Who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Revolution calling you
(There's a) Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Gotta make a change
Gotta push, gotta push it on through

His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Why should I feel discouraged
Why should the shadows come
Why should my heart feel lonely
And long for heaven and home
When Jesus is my portion
A constant friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches over me
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me

I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me (He watches me)
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches
I know He watches
I know He watches me

I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me (He watches me)
His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me (He watches me)
He watches me
I know
He watches
Me

Peace,
Khalliqa

"He Touched Me" - This was my father's signature song in church.

"Peace Be Still" - The choir used to ROCK the church with this song!

"He Knows Just How Much You Can Bear" - The old folks' choir sang this at my church back in the day; I just love the song.
